and im not really sure what it means yet i spent my weekend doing homework and makeup assignments in hope of passing up untill last night when i checked my grades online and they mysteriously became terribly worse...(c's became f's)....i have a 34% in a class i need to pass to graduate if anyone has any advice other than "kill yourself" thatd be great
Call your counselor immediately and get in summer school. You should still be able to walk the stage and then finish up in summer.
walk the stage or not, it doesn't really matter. just make the class up in summer school and be done! or in many school districts now, you can take internet courses to make up class, but usually you have to wait until the next year. my advice is, finish HS no matter what.
He already made it to the end. A GED at this point would be very stupid. Just schedule to take the failing class over the summer and you can still walk at graduation. Good luck!
I'd go in and talk to the principal ASAP. It might suck, but a little butt kissing will go a long way right now. Tell him you did all the makeup work, tell him you're changing your ways, tell him you give good head (jk). I know from experience: Schools don't want to flunk people. It makes their state numbers look bad. And they'll do anything to avoid it. Don't talk to the teachers because they don't care about numbers. Principals do. You'd be surprised how much they like to show a little power and "help a kid out" (which really means keeping that failure rate as low as possible.) And if it doesn't work, you've lost nothing but a little time. (DON'T GET A GED! You might as well have nothing!)
^^ I have a GED, I think it's something and I worked my ass off for it. I didn't get to choose a diploma, sometimes you have to take what you can get.
You're right Therese, and I meant no offense. But I know quite a few people who do the hiring for their company and they've told me they throw GED resumes into the trash right along with people who don't spell correctly, or whose handwriting is sloppy, etc. It's not fair, it's wrong, it doesn't consider special situations where people like yourself had no other choice and worked their butts off for a GED .... but it's how a lot of employers do it. Profit before people.
my GED got me into university. heeh2, do go in and check the real grades. See what you can do to finish over the summer. A diploma does look better to employers (thus, a bachelors degree for me).
Get a real diploma instead of a GED. I hated high shcool with a pation, but I stuck it out and finished.
my senior year my English teacher failed me and half of all her students in all her classes. my parents still made me go to graduation even though i wasnt graduating, it sucked. Out of all the times to have to go to summer school it was after i graduated, i never had to go to summer school before. i signed up for summer school and skipped the first half of the semester then showed up and they said since you missed so much just write a report on whatever you want unlike real school where you have to write about stupid shit like MacBeth. So i chose the life of Siddhartha Gautama aka Buddha and got a 95.
I never was to fond of school either. South Carolina schools are actually ranked 49th in the nation. I always felt that it focused on repetition and memorization instead of actually grasping and understanding these concepts. Another part of my problem was that I did so much reading by myself that the things is school seemed silly to me. I never graduated either. I got my GED and I’m in technical school finishing classes while I make my choice of college. If you have the opportunity to get a public education , take it. But make sure to supplement it with reading and learning on your own.
sorry if im going off topic for just a sec.....Geechee, I live in Chucktown, too!! Just got done at TTC myself. Anyway, you should graduate, but I have met many people who got their GED and did really well in college....
I had to take summer courses to graduate Highschool. When I was in highschool my counselor told me to drop out, then they said I would never get into college without taking the s.a.t.'s which I did not, well Im on my fourth year at UMass Dartmouth now. Dont worry, highschool is a joke, and so is the first 2 years of college
wow just too little too late huh? i'll spare you the knuckle rapping... get yourself into a credit make-up program asap...talk to your counselor and get info through them. if you get caught up quickly you should still be able to graduate w/ your class.
There's nothing invalid about a GED; this is true. You can usually get into college with one (sometimes community college, at first, which is not a bad way to start for someone who's struggling. I don't know if bigger schools accept them; it's worth checking out). While some employers reject them, plenty enough of them don't. My brother's ex-girlfriend got a GED, and now she's working on her master's in Biology. It is valuable. However, to come so far and then have to start over is a lot of work, and I think that was the main issue. I'm curious to hear what the OP decided to do?
i enrolled in community college i only needed to earn two units but i got nine instead....it finished off my diploma as well as getting me a head start (sort of lol) in higher education i guess.... my diploma is available to be picked up when my counselor gets the transcripts in the mail.....and they should be their before the week is up
