I've read a little about this band (defunct since the late 90s) that spawned Queens of the StoneAge and supposedly had a pretty big following. I had never heard of them until I read something -- maybe in Rolling Stone. Anybody know much about Kyuss? I was wondering if they were worth looking into.
They're ok in my opinion. Blues for the red sun is my favourite album of them. I prefer their music above Queens of the stone age any day!
they're pretty good. check them out. if you like them you really should try some stonerrock, y know ?
I agree, although stoner rock is a pretty wide term. You might wanna look into it first to see what kind of stoner rock suits your taste! I especially dig the groovy 70's heavy rock influenced stoner rock myself. Some more doom metal orientated stoner is great too though.
I loved Kyuss. Blues For the Red Sun and Sky Valley were amazing records. They were way underrated bands and sorely missed. Queens of the Stone Age is cool but I liked Kyuss much better.
Thanks all. I downloaded Blues for the Red Sun and I love it. Always like experiencing something new (at least new to me). Don't know how I never heard of these guys in the 90s. I was probably too wasted. Cheers
Kyuss was one of those bands that had a cult following and never got too big. Plus their singer John Garcia and Josh Homme butted heads at times over stupid things, which led to them ending. All of their four records are awesome.
If you like them you might also like Sleep, Electric Wizard, Earthless, Coulor Haze, Mammoth Volume...just to name a few. Not a big fan of the droney heavily downtuned stoner/sludge/doom but I love anything that's groovy and rifftacular which all these bands encompass.
