alternative grow boxes

I want to make a small grow box for about 3-4 lsted plants. i have a closet and originally i was going to measure the inside of the closet and then simply go to home depot or wherever and have them cut it to match my dimensions so it would fit perfectly in my closet. but now im thinking, what other things can be used for a grow box inside a closet? what other ideas do you guys use in order to grow in..everyone cant use the wood idea so i was thinking what else is out there. thanks alot
