I am a big fan of Vetiver and I believe they fit well in the COOL population.
    Same with Devendra.
Another one I'd like to add to the list is Iron & Wine.

all the musicians that have been mentioned are great ( devendra and iron and wine are top) a couple of brittish guys im really into are davy graham and bert jansch(great great guitar players) who influenced alot of people over here, such as jimmy page who lifted whole tunes frm bert? also neil young once said bert jansch had a huge influence on him. but my fav tune frm davy graham if u can find it is -she moved thru the bizarre/blue raga. davy is also famed for making up the tunning dadgad and the tune anji.

Fleet Foxes kills them all :sombrero: ... but to be honnest...i have 100 and more favourite bands so ... there's just too many choices... i've pick the first who came to mind... when you're a rock n roll (wide general term) collector... Try to answer to those type of question is like a fuckin' lottery  ... a major place for the hazard here...
If you don't listen to 200 good bands and are not obsessed by musical archeology (in search of nearly lost tresures) this question is not so complicated

    Au Revoir Simone, of course.

And I second the T-Rex suggestion.
Devandra cut / pasted his sound directly from early Marc Bolan:. See:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx7FFQ_-wos&feature=related"]She Was Born To Be My Unicorn - Tyrannosaurus Rex - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtpUn0FzNds&feature=related"]Marc Bolan * Like A White Star - YouTube

Damn near every early T Rex song sounds like a better version of D.B.
That YT vid is horrible quality, too. Sorry. You can't even hear the layers of sound.
Something many dilettantes today simply don't have... as bedroom artists with no million dollar studio backing.
It's a double edged sword. But, get the T-Rex remasters and bliss out, if ya want. It's worth it.

There's a goldmine of early psychedelic folk that hovers in this general area.
And back then, they were doing something new and special.

Wikipedia is always a good place to start.

    Have you checked out:

Good stuff, I don't particularly like Zimmerman, esp after seeing 'Never look back' and seeing what an arrogant cock he could be to powerless newb interviewers, BUT...it's a good radio show and I try not to judge people too much from a few slips in their past. Plus, his voice is funneh when I'm high.
