The USA is the only country in the "civilzed" world that allows prescription drug commercials on TV,literally everywhere.Really really PATHETIC!

Prescription drug commercials were ILLEGAL in the US until the late 1990s.What people often do not think of is these drug companies spend over 100 times MORE on advertising drugs than research and development of good medicine. So the drug companies are actually now a Worldwide problem. They do not care about your health, they just want your money.

Everything is a disease and the side effects are worse than what the drug is supposed to treat.

"May cause hypertension and anal leakage"

    Are you fucking kidding me?!

Many of the most effective treatments(medications) or cures for illnesses were NOT developed by drug companies. They were invented by good dedicated people, dedicated doctors, scientists etc.The cure for polio was invented by 2 doctors.Lithium by an Australian scientist. Those are just 2 examples of many. And they were NOT patented out to the Pharma companies. And the 'new medications they advertise on American tv are inferior to many of the older drugs.I'm in favor of good medicine,Big Pharma is not.

I remember those days when drugs, attorneys and sexual aids weren't advertised on tv. Now cigarettes can't be advertise on tv, and beer and alcohol ads are severely restricted, but we have ads for viagra, we tell little girls they need a vaccine that may or may not prevent cervical cancer, what we fail to mention is it's all about a sexually transmitted disease. And the current kicker is the one for KY's His and Hers.

Yes attorneys also advertising on tv is a new thing too. That also is unacceptable.I never saw perscription drug commercials on tv as recently as 7 years ago. They also used to regulate 'how many' commercials could be shown in a hour.No longer. The European Union BANS any and all types of prescription drug adverts. Is it any wonder far fewer people watch mainstream television in the US.

Doctors didn't advertise either. Now local ads around here are full of dentists, opthamologists and gastric surgery, etc. are prevalent.

You're absolutely right at least where I'm concerned.I never watch TV anymore it aggravates me sooo much  ,all the ads,the subliminal messaging and there is hardly anything good to watch anyway. It's disguisting what it's become!
I also refuse to listen to mainstream radio. It's the same damn thing!
Years ago it was'nt like this at least not 1/2 as bad as it is now.
I used to love the radio and so did all my friends. It was'nt a market,it was more about the music. There was always ads but not like this.
    Capitalism has taken over.
I boycott TV and radio and watch and listen to what I want minus all the bullshit.
    Let them burn.

Well there are plenty of people on these forums who think that cholesterol is some sort of toxin naturally produced by the human body that should be minimised at all costs. Hence statins,

If you are ever in a doctor's office you will see ads EVERYWHERE. The Pharma reps come in all the time offering free samples to give to patients and also supplies them with pens, pads of paper, posters, ect. which are then plastered all over the doctor's office to advertise their product. This has to violate the hippocratic oath you would think.

That is why the "War On Drugs" is the ultimate irony....the american society is a drug addicted group which the pharmaceutical companies have created...they(drug corps) are the true "pushers" who need to be put out of business....and the small time growers of worth while medicine...be allowed to florish....I do remember the "good ol' days" when the snakes in suits(lawyers) and med companies were not allowed to tread on air waves.....just another example that the media corporations aren't acting as the public watch dogs that they claim to be...they just have their financial interests and the dumbing of america in mind as they pour out the daily dribble of bullshit

    Very true...
Unfortunately our government is run by corporate interests and nearly every law, policy shift, amendment, or whatever enactment there is- is calculated to pour more of our money into the corpoprate pockets-- so they can afford to fund campaign coffers so the puppet-candidates can dip into the funds and enact that oh-so-elaborate ruse commonly known as a campaign... where suited snobs paste plastic smiles on their faces and pretend they give a rat's ass about the common man whom they look at much the same way we look at a farmer's livestock... but we're not a source of milk, meat, or eggs... we're little money trees to be regularly harvested-- and laws are set out by the government establishing exactly how close corporations can come to infecting, poisoning, robbing, lying to, and killing us without being in violation of the law.

Pharmaceutical giants are not in the business of curing disease or alleviating pain, they are in the business of making money- and advertisers who work on their behalf (at a tidy profit that is part of the cost) are in the business of convincing us that we have some sort of condition that needs to be treated... and while prescription only drugs can only be obtained through a doctors direction we are programmed with brand names that we take to a doctor's office; the idea being that we can somehow influence the decision of a practitioner who likely doesn't look at us with any more respect than lawmakers who are busy colluding with corporate interests to ensure that our education of choices is kept limited and the culture is cultivated to not be incline to do research but to allow "experts" to do our decision making for us.

Marijuana is a particular threat to our corporate culture because it is cursed by effectiveness in a number of ways that are otherwise treated at great profit and questionable effectiveness by drugs manufactured by companies whose highest ranking employees are politically connected in one way or another. I can tell you first hand that weed is very effective at treating insomnia and a friend takes it to help with his appetite. The government will act very quickly to protect the cash flow to its connected cash-flush cronies... this is why there will probably always be some legal implications from possessing any weed or paraphernalia.

I agree it's absurd and downright criminal to allow drug companies and all the other lowlifes:attorneys, debt collectors, insurance companies etc. to advertise on American tv,magazines and so on .As mentioned they used to be banned,it was against the law .I also never saw these ads ten years ago.--------------- If the new administration is going to have any credibilty whatsoever and really intends to improve things(actually try to be public servants),they will "re-instate" the ban on these types of advertisements. It's one of the first things they should have done.---I still see the ads, what are they waiting for?

Honestly, I just see the capitalist tendencies of american corporations as an extension of the corrupt sociopolitical regime that has plagued american politics since the beginning.
