An empty-nester hippie is one who was a hippie in their youth, gave it up to raise a family, and now that the kids are grown, is re-discovering their hippie roots. Seems like we're seeing this phenomenon more and more. Some have started smoking pot again, some are attending protests, others in cities tend to hang out in hippie-friendly parts of town and go to summertime hippie festivals. Others have moved into houses which allow them to garden and enjoy a greener self-sustaining lifestyle, while some have gone as far as to join communes, ecovillages and co-op housing. Sure, a lot of them are part-time or weekend hippies, but we should still welcome them back to the fold. Their wisdom and experience will prove valuable in keeping the movement going.
There are for sure some like you describe, but not all of us "gave it up to raise a family". Some of us kept on truckin' & raised a family anyway. Peace, eace: poor_old_dad
