I am so pissed. Remember a while back, we were talking about teachers not allowing kids to use the bathroom? My third grade dd, who has inherited TTB Syndrome from me, (TTB, Teeny Tiny Bladder, LOL!) has been having a problem with her teacher about using the bathroom. I have written a note to be put in her file saying she needs to use the bathroom quite often and she should be allowed to go as needed. Yesterday, my hubby went to pick her up, and noticed she was wearing a different uniform. He asked her what happened, and she told him she needed to use the bathroom, her teacher wouldn't allow her, and she peed herslf in class. How awful! The poor girl is humiliated! My hubby turned around, went into the school and had himself a nice hissy fit. Her teacher is claiming that when the kids go to the bathroom they take too long, so she was "forced to limit their bathroom trips" I call it "covering her ass". They are asking me to come in on Monday for a meeting, but my husband told them they really didn't want me to come in, because I'm not as nice as he is, lol! I was planning on withdrawing them from school after the winter holidays and homeschooling anyway, but I think I'll do it sooner.
it just boggles my mind how many teachers would rather let their students pee all over themselves than let them USE THE FREAKING TOILET. Honestly, what is more attractive to them, waiting a few minutes for the kid to go to the bathroom, or stopping the whole class and getting a janitor to clean and disinfect after the fact?
I work with kids and have to play devils advocate for a quick sec, sometimes its hard to tell who really needs to go and who just wants to go in there and fool around. I used to work with middle schoolers and a fav trick was to go use the bathroom and take a looong time cause your friend planned to be in there at the same time. Now I'm working with preschoolers and even they know the I hafta go to the bathroom trick. However, if you sent a note it is inexcusable for the teacher to not let her go. Hopefully now that she had her accident things will be different although it is awful that thats what it took for the teacher to listen. Kids forget quickly. They won't tease her for long. H
Padron my language, but... Where the hell do you LIVE? In Unknown Russia? Every Health code on the planet says they can't KEEP her from going.
Brighid, Here are some websites I saw when I was confronting this issue. I sent e mails to the principal, the dean, the head of the History department AND the teacher in question, explaining my anger, and why doing this type of limiting was a health and legal liability to the school. I included some quotes and links to these pro potty freedom websites, and the prinicpal and the head of the department made the teacher retract the policy of limiting bathroom privs and rewarding kids for NOT using thier passes. I got IMMEDIATE response! I didn't say "I'm gonna sue your butt." I was very nice and just reminded them all the medical problems the children could have when forced to hold feces and urine and all the LEGAL problems the school would have if someone had a child who had any of these problems..... It was immediately resolved. They would rather have kids roaming the halls on a potty pass than a lawsuit. here There are actualy TWO websites which deal with this issue. http://www.childadvocate.org/1b_medicalrisks.htm www.pottyrights.org
Maggie, you are wonderful! Mwuuuuaaaahhhhhh! pottyrights.org isn;t working, I'll try later. I'm going in tomorrow to set this straight. Hopefully, I won't be too much of a bitch!
