    BAGHDAD, May 30 (UPI) --

Iraq's Parliament speaker said Friday there were technicalities delaying the adoption of provincial election laws, but they were still on schedule for October.

Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, a Sunni with the Iraqi Accordance Front, said Parliament would vote on the provincial council laws by next week, citing "technical" reasons for the delays.

The Iraqi Constitution mandated provincial elections should immediately follow parliamentary elections, which were held in December 2005.

"There would be enough time to hold the provincial council elections (in) October," Mashhadani told Voices of Iraq.

This is another example of democracy in progress.:cheers2:

Hopefully we will succeed in the end but that was just a isolated instance with one mans belief. He has the freedom to do what he wants since we liberated them. Thats democracy. It takes time and we have all the time in the world which is why John McCain stated a while back that we will remain in Iraq for a indefinite time and I agree with him. He has my vote.

Oh come on, you've given yourself away now. He has the freedom to murder his own daughter and arrange for the murder of his wife? If he has that freedom why doesn't Saddam have the freedom to use chemical weapons on kurdish villages? In addition, did you read the bloody article? It wasn't 'one man's belief ' at all, the police not only let him go, they congratulated him with the statement that "sometimes honour killings are unavoidable". All we're doing by being there is inflaming the region further.

Saddam violated 17 different resolutions (especially 1441) of the UN security council and they voted to oust him along with other nations. It was in the interest to oust him after he was given 48 hours to leave.

Now you're simply making things up. The 48 hour ultimatum was from Bush personally to Saddam. That had nothing to do with the U.N.

The Bush administration never got U.N. support for the use of military force in Iraq in 2003. The U.S. offered a draft to the U.N. in March 2003 regarding the use of military force but it didn't have enough support of the U.N. security council to pass. It was withdrawn by the U.S. on March 13, 2003.

Even if the Bush administration had gotten support from the U.N. security council for military force, it wouldn't have been to invade, overthrow, and occupy another country. The U.N. charter doesn't allow such actions. The best the Bush administration could have done would have been to obtain a U.N. resolution that allowed military force to help enforce inspections. It couldn't even muster that.

In this election will the Iraqis have the ability to vote to end the American occupation?

How much will this cost? How will we pay for it? When we entered World War II President Roosevelt doubled the income tax, and increased the rate for the rich to 90% of their incomes. President Bush cut taxes. That is the difference between the fiscal responsponsibility of the Democrats and the vodoo economics of the Republicans.

Much of the national debt is being bought by Communist China. How is that good for the "strong national defense" Republicans advocate?

I like how last time they called it an "election" even though not a single name appeared on any ballot, only names of parties.

It would still be called an election, parties can be elected too.

Yeah, it's the Republican version of "secret ballot." It's a secret who is on the ballot.

Gotta love those conservatives, because it's still illegal to kill the traitor bastards.

Democracy in action will happen when American occupation forces do what most Iraqis want them to do which is to leave their country.

"BAGHDAD - Iraq's national security adviser said Tuesday his country will not accept any security deal with the United States unless it contains specific dates for the withdrawal of U.S.-led forces....President Bush has said he opposes a timetable."

This is delightful because it makes things more difficult for the Bush Administration and the presidential campaign of John McCain.:D:D:D

This is of course like telling the Romans to leave England.

They'll leave after they've plundered the place, or because they're needed elsewhere. The latter is troubling because it could mean a shift of attention towards Iran. Which is conveniently just down the road.
