    :cheers2:
So the little tale begins in a small rural town that thinks it is big; A lady called
me up , to trim her horses feet. ( I am a Horse Shoer by schooling); I do it every once in a while, not enough to be considered even part time.
So I show up early and wait for the lady to come and get me into the barn. She comes out, and not looking at me at first, then she looks , she stopped talking, and has the deer in the vw van headlights, I took off my hat, and my hair came down, I asked her if she was all right, no words just a stare, I asked
where were the horses? She showed me the horses, I did an extra good job,
I tried small talk, that didn't go to well, so asked for my wage, she gave it to me,with out talking, ..... so fast forward to last week, I called to see when she wanted me back, silence then she said, I hate to do this to you but; we don't like hippies, I said thank you............I hung up , and got to thinking about it, and I felt
proud that I did not compromise, and I am standing up for the way I am
has anyone ever had this happen?

Thanks and peace and love willow2

Wow, that sucks. My boss told me to get a haircut at my old job and I said okay but never got a haircut. I got fired about two months later, but when he was firing me he didn't say anything about my hair but I think it may have had something to do with it.

Ya the short hair world, beats around the bush to much, Isn't it weird that everybody that wears a suit and tie, are so busy keeping up with the other people, there are houses that are mc mansions there is never anyone home, the kids are put in child care, the family unit is gone, but living the counter
    culture way,
seems to be the best way out there; it seems people who live this way ,are down to earth, they tell you what is on their mind, and do not smile to your face, then stab you when your back is turned. How come the people with the
fancy cars suit and ties and short hair, seem to be in back room deals that are not right, but they play the part, when was the last time people in the counter culture have been in the news for racketeering or embezzlement
I realize that we are not perfect, but we don't go around canning people because of their hair, or nose rings dread locks ,you get the idea.

    peace and love to all......willow2

It may not have been your long hair, only that you were different. I know a woman who was fired from her job as a waitress because she shaved her head. Her brother has cancel and her whole family shaved their heads in support of him. Her boss didn't care... he said, 'no hair, no job'...

You're damned if you don't, damned if you do.

Your kidding right ? I have not heard anyone say anything like that since 1970. Who are you Jerry Rubin ? Nobody knows what a hippy is today. Just keep your head in the right place and ask her if she is lost in time. If you are a true hippy things like this will roll off your back. Stay strong.

    Signs signs everywhere there's signs
    .....
    and the sign said,
Long haired freaky people need not apply
So I tucked my hair up under my cap and I went in to ask him why

And I thought that attitude was soooo last century.

The signs may no longer be around but the attitudes appear to still be.

I had a boss try to tell me to cut my hair once. He was just getting insistent when a co worker walked by, and I quickly said to her, " do you hear that? You and I have to cut our hair."
She tore a strip off him as he sputtered away that it was only males that had to ....

    The issue was dropped. :)

In Canada, we have laws against that kind of discrimination. I assume you do too.

Indeed. I'm surprised to hear this. But I think whatever you do is ok. Maybe things haven't changed as much as I think they did. Sorry about the hassle you had it was wrong. Be strong.

    Peace

She lives in a uptight world, where everything is just perfect. It is an old house, she has lived there for a long time. She had the hair do of a Rosie the riveter from ww2. But the counter culture is alive and well, in the place I live
our house is in an area, called the sanctuary one time an ambulance was
trying to go up and help a man, and this guy named Sam, jumped out from behind a boulder with a shot gun and a white robe, and screamed "I'm god"/
the place was very eventful to say the least. people living free man free.
so never think the counter culture doesn't exist, it thrives here.
Go to takilma Oregon on line, check it out. It is a whole town of counter culture people , they kicked government out, and have lived this way for a long time, This board is such a wonderful group of people.

I'm really sorry that happened to you. I can sympathize with being fired for no fault of your own. It's really sad, but times are getting worse. I don't know what our world is coming to.

Oh yeah, Has anyone been asked ,"what is your statement your trying to make?" This uptight lady said I wanna cut your hair snip snip, then she asked me that question. I told her it is not a statement, it's me, just me. I believe the revolution has to begin in ones soul, the counter culture is the start of it. We need to organize and form a people that seeks real truth, puts down the industrial military complex, get rid of the tyranny we have been living under, since the day the CIA took power, I see the day a coming where peace groups make real lasting peace, and the protester is not looked upon as a dreamer, but treated with respect and honor , I see a day when the suit and tie people whom are in this high tech suicide machine, break free from the prisons of self indulgence , getting ahead of the Jones , and break the chain of the cell phone, and get rid of the mega billion dollar corporation. That do not see people as people, but as cogs in the gears of success and what a day it will be, when all my brothers and sisters from the counter culture can join arms and surround this world in a embrace of love, that tips the balance of the systems that be. We can change the world one flower at a time, or rescue people from this Babylon with kind words of hope love and peace, help share the load that our forefathers asked us to bare , real freedom comes not from what we have or what we know, but that little spark of freedom that runs through the veins of America , in a river of blood ever searching for the oneness that unites us all in the counter culture.

I have dreadlocks and worked in a large architecture office. I parted ways with the company right before the Rainbow Gathering, but have had several interviews already.

I live in Utah, though and often hear people whisper about me at the supermarket, etc.

It sucks you got fired, though. I sometimes get a little stung over that kind of thing.

I love long hair on men. I absolutely love it. I thought Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob) looked great with long hair. I think everyone looks great with long hair. No matter what color or what texture or straight or curly, in my perfect world everyone has minimum of hair to their asses!

I don't get it why people won't stop bitching about other peoples looks... I think it's silly, because why should they care about what I or you think about them? Just imagine a world where everyone has a military cut and always wears business outfits... That'd be awful. I think everyone should just dress as they feel, because it's not who we are, it's just clothing.

I was in Sweden a few weeks ago and I must say that their way of living is much better than that of the other europeans. I was at the metro station, and there was a guy he had a beard, really long hair and only wore a striped dress and boots. You can imagine how other people would've reacted... And to my surprise I was the only one who was really shocked. Not because he wore a dress, but because I thought "Oh my... This guy's so brave to go out in a dress". I was amazed. And then I noticed that all the other people just didn't even notice!!! They didn't care, nobody laughed at him or said something. You can walk around with shit on your head in Stockholm and they wouldn't even tell you that you stink.

I'd like everyone to be like that. :)

hey that sounds like a cool place to be, is it very expensive to live there?
a person should be content having love and a tent. But if it gets cold bring some long hemp under garments.
