    Hello,

Can you still be a Hippie without supporting all ideas widely accepted by Hippies? For example: do you HAVE to support the idea that we are a major contributor to global warming (personally I do) to be considered a Hippie?

Isn't that like asking for permission? If you consider yourself a hippie, who cares what anyone else thinks. Same thing with your belief system. Belief what you belief, not what someone else tells you to.

If you try to squeeze yourself into an image of a hippy, then you will never be one.

I think you are confusing hippy with liberal...not always the same.

What is a hippie anyhow, i know what a stereotypical hippie is, but what truely puts one in the category of a hippie?

For myself I have never considered myself a hippie, others people have called me a hippie.

    I am just me

I dunno what's with the labeling...
I once even read a question on some yahoo site where a girl asked: "How can I be a Hippie?" she wanted real advice what to believe and what to wear in order to be a Hippie.

I guess we're all just humans. It shouldn't matter if you're a hippie or not. Of course, I'm flattered too when somebody calls me one, because I think it's an honour to be called a Hippie, 'cause those people back in the day were kinda heroes to me.
But, you can believe what you want, and still be a hippy. You can believe that Jesus will save the day or that Hemp is something that should be banned forever... Those are just superficial things if you ask me. In the end it's about love. About accepting one another no matter what they believe or say or do. So it's a contradiction to think that other Hippies won't accept you as a hippie if you don't believe the exact same things as they do.

We should enjoy our different believes, swap ideas and just love each other for being different and unique.

so, peace. And don't think about how other people perceive you.

I am almost 50 and consider myself a hippy, although I was only 9 the summer of love. I still saw all the kids on the side of the road during our family vacation, and I wanted to be with those kids. I liked what I saw, so I became a little hippy, and have stayed one all this time.

I think this is all pretty funny, that people have to ask what a hippy is or how to be one. For me it took me a few years, into my early 20's to figure out that I was one. But like others said, there's no need to label yourself and also when someone calls me a hippy I 4 sure, take it as a compliment and just luagh and smile. free your mind and your soul will follow.

    peace.....

do you own thing.for example i have a wide range of interests.there's been art, music literature that seemed inspired by use of drug use when actually it was acheived naturally.some people have natural abilities.....in the 60's there were artists and musicians that were classified in the hippie culture when actually that was not their intention they just wanted to do their thing.....i guee this is true of most eras in history..i always try to be a mellow person but i like sports like the wwe, roller derby, boxing, football, hockey,i dig it when a baseball manager comes out and starts getting in the umpires face and stuff and gets thrown out of a game.....this post isn't making much sense to myself.so i guess i'll end it.

OK hiphippiegirl I have to disagree here. I would say for sure there is no litmus test for someone to be a hippie or not but I would for sure have to say that social compassion would be right up there.

Then again you are only 14 and I am sure just mirroring your republican parents.

dont constrain yourself with titles. you are neither hippie nor human. you just are and thats enough.

less philosophical answer: if you are down for the cause your a hippie.

Being a hippie is something thats inside of you , something you dont even have to try to be.....its just there !
Its like an inborn code of ethics , kinda a religion that you cant shake off or deny.

1st, being a hippie is a spiritual state - that is where most people get it wrong. It isn't adherence to these rules or that doctrine, it is a way of being. My opinion is that if you naturally desire to become the type of person who truly tries to love everyone; if you believe in freedom, fairness and compassion; if you despise insincerity, prejudice, and greed; and you are willing to show these things openly to the world through whatever way you choose to express it - then you probably are a hippie, whether you call it such or not.

what kind of question are you asking ?? hippie is just a term made by society to classify a certain type of people that are anti-war, who believe in living the way they want without pressures from society...they are just like minded people who have same ideas and beliefs, i bet you they did not call or think of themselves as hippies..just live the way you want, you dont need of a label of any kind to be part of that group
