Ever since 9-11, there seems to be a coordinated effort, disseminated through the media, to change popular word usage.
For instance, in the 20th century, people were blown apart by bombs, now they are attacked by IEDs.
Before we had rebels, now we have insurgents.
We used to occupy, now we have a presence.

Words do have an emotional impact, and that impact is constantly evolving. People form attachments to words, usually based on experience and the context of the word usage. for instance, the term 'colored people' used to be considered a progressive way of referring to black people, but since then it has been connected to a period in American history where black people were subject to brutal, systemic racism. Where once there was a good connotation and association, there is now a negative.

The switch from traditional words describing warfare, like bomb, rebel, and occupation, is an attempt to mitigate the emotional impact of the action. There is an emotional connection to the word bomb, it conjures up images of destruction. IED, on the other hand, is three letters that untill recently were meaningless, we haven't quite had the time to form an emotional impact, at least on the level that the word bomb has.

    agree/disagree, discuss.

It's called psycholinguistics and plays an integral part in the formulation of propaganda, which is certainly nothing new.

Yep.. Orwell called it Newspeak, and it's scary how accurate 1984 is turning out to be.. OK the timescale is longer but yeesh..
Newspeak leads to Newthink.. the ultimate goal being that rebellion is impossible to think about because the language contains no suitable words.

This is really important we need to not just educate our children to pass tests and find profitable occupations, they need to learn how to think critically, and hold themselves individually responisble.

Marketers now have more control over world events than ever before. We need to teach our children how to discern the difference.

yes this is a concept i have put forward many times on this site.

by using the warmonger's and propagandist's language you fall into the trap they have already created by their own paranoid delusions.

do not use words like "islamofacist" it is a creation of the fifth columnists that have taken over the american government. when you examine the word it is a junk term linking concepts totally removed from one another.

use the language of the delusional and you end up losing your mind and blindly follow any new directive from the ministry of truth.
