I've got a small bit of faith in this album. They've lost Bob Rock, and the small little samples of riffs sound minorly promising. The biggest thing they've got going against them is their last 4 albums.

Look at the bright side, at least they can hardly sink much deeper after St. Anger...

I actually think St. Anger was good a decent album. Not AJFA good but definatley not half as bad as people say it is.

But with the clips that they've been showing us I actually think this album is gonna be pretty damn good.

True all dat. I think it was largely Bob Rock (and Lars) who created most of the nightmare we had to witness on the "Some Kind of Monster" doc.

Rick Rubin produced the new one. He's amazing. And I think he might actually have put the smack down on them and told them to man up. He even said that, when he was hired, he worried a little because he also had watched "Some Kind" and all the girly backbiting and whining that went on.

But when they met he told them to forget they are the almighty Metallica. They have no past hits to play, and they are going to be in a Battle of the Bands. What kind of music do they want to play?

Hetfield said this inspired him. The new album is supposed to harken back to "Ride the Lightning" days. We'll see. That's what I had read about St. Anger, and it was nothing but a Korn ripoff (I blame Lars for this, too.)

Here's the article if you guys want to check it out:

Metallica is probably the single most hated metal band by "real metalheads". There's not been really a whole lot of praise going to metallica since the 80's.. so as for overrated, I'd have to question that.

They're not overrated, they were great once upon a time.. They really lost that greatness though.. Can't imagine they would be so big with the albums after the Black album. I lost my interest in this band a few years ago (after Reload I guess) and I don't have the slightest urge to check what they're doing now. I'm sorry to say I have no hope for them.

Yeah well i am not a "Real Metalhead"... And even if they are hated by those "Real Metalheads" then they are really praised by almost anyone who has no idea what metal is or those who don't consider theirselves so "Real"...
I find that they do have good songs but they are not THAT good as almost everybody says they are...

Master of puppets was the first metal album i ever listened too and it is still one of my favourite albums.
ride the lightning was good and if it sounds like that than ill be happy.
but it wont st anger sucked so bad.
the band has gone shit since cliff died although ajfa was alright.
Metallica is dead in my book and i will never buy another metallica album.

Well... they aren't really an old school speed metal band anymore.

They're alternative/country metal, and musically decent, although stylistically and artistically I find them to be shit.
