Why is McCain receiving $58,000 a year in disability payments?

That's more than I make actually working for a living. But I am supposed to see him as capable of performing the duties as commander in chief? Will he continue to receive those benefits after the election?

Why is that many of the current returning vets are being denied benefits for PTS and other related conditions but the Admiral's boy who by his own admission in statements made during his captivity was treated well is still receiving payments while telling the voting public he's fit to serve.

Then decide whether this man deserves to be president.

 

$58,000.00 a year may be chump change for him. But think about it he probably doesn't need to consider how much gasoline or milk costs per gallon. And as taxpayers we are giving him this cushion, while denying todays vets of their disability pensions and reducing their GI bill.

If he's received that for 20 years 91988) that would equal: $1,160,000.00

Not that I support this guy by any means. Just saying I wouldn't necessarily judge his ability to serve as president based on whether or not he can play tennis...

 

Don't have anything against people with disabilities only have a problem with a Presidential candidate receiving disabilities payments for something he is legislating current veterans not be eligible for.

I am not judging his worthiness on his physical capabilities, I questioning why he is receiving 58,000.00 a year and who knows for how long based on disabilities he's overcome. He is now legislating to prevent current veterans from receiving the same sort of compensation. Does he need that 58,000.00? I am also questioning his claims of torture, much as I questioned Hillary's claims of landing in a war zone. No one gets a free ride with me. I hope they don't and won't get a free ride from you Firefly.

Perhaps because he was never tortured, now he agrees to legislation that allows the US to perform torture on prisoners and opens US military to torture by foreign governments. Not everyone is an admiral's son.

McCain and his wife are worth hundreds of MILLIONS of dollars.The fact that he and many other very rich people get disability or other financial government benefits is just another case of 'welfare for the wealthy'.Wealthy people should not even get social security when they reach that age.-----Pay MORE money to the people that 'really need it.

 

Funny thing is we are always focussed on welfare reform for the poor and the working, we never take a close look at the wealthy that receive it. Do we want a president who receives benefits he denies todays veterans? Why don't they lose the benefits once they find gainful employment? Doesn't the Senate pay well enough?

 

I agree "gardener".The priorities in America nowadays are BACKWARDS.The ONLY function of the republcan party within the last 25 years has been to make the rich ,richer.That is why I call the republian party the 'socialist party for the wealthy'.It just amazes me how they have been able to get away with it.The 'real war' has been the war on the middle class,Iraq is just a distraction.

 

AND,why is McCain viewed as a war hero?Hundreds of thousands of men were in prison camps in WW2 etc.. just like him.He is no Audie Murphy or Seargeant York.Seems like you can fool some of the people some of the time,but the republicans fool alot of the people ALL the time.

 

He regained flight status, aren't pilots required to pass strict health screenings? So since 1981 he's been receiving $58,000.00 a year. Nice package if you can get a doctor and lawyers to support your case through 3-4 denials today. I wonder how many times he had to appeal?

 

What about the democrats under Clinton or Pelosi, what have they done for you?

Maybe if you are very rich,you can 'buy' your way into regaining flight status in the U$.McCain is NOT disabled.
