Most people are too dumb to understand that there's a notion of quality in music, just like there is in art, film, food, and many other things. So no, your statement is completely wrong.
Yeah, I exaggerated. It almost always also means that "our taste in music is similar"... Ofcourse, it depends on who says it. I'm not into a whole lot of classical music, but I can tell that someone who is heavily into it has a better taste in music than someone who listens to Slipknot. I can tell how intelligent a person is by their taste in music, believe it or not.
Im a fan of The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jefferson Airplane. How intelligent am I Pavel? Oh yea and I forgot, Grateful Dead too, but only the post Pigpen stuff
i like to mix it up a little... i was just listening to neil young and now im reveling in a little alice in chains...next will probably travelling riverside blues by zeppelin...
Heh. I like some Doors, some Hendrix, few Joplin, and can't avoid liking some of the overplayed Jefferson Airplane. I also really do like some Dead stuff. But if someone listed those bands as their favourite bands I would assume that they are 15 and on the right path towards better music.
I think it means they're either trying to be nice, warm up to you, or have nothing else to reply with. Sometimes people who have nothing else to talk about talk about music...such as I.
Pavel is right. what's good is subjective, but there is a standard that serious music fans tend to hold.
too many people wear their musical choices as a badge of honor and coolness than any sort of joy in music. i think that's completely childish. get a personality of your own, already.
There are people who simply aren't into music, and it's impossible for me to judge their intelligence based on their music preference, and that's understandable. If music is just something secondary to you, then go ahead and do whatever you want... I'm talking about people who advocate the bands that they like and act like they are the shit. You must realize that music is probably the strongest cultural force in this society. A person who is a "serious music fan", as Nick said, is simply more cultured. (as elitist as that might sound)
Now that's the spirit haha Later Pav Im out of here for the weekend. Peace and love kids flower power and LED ZEPPLIN!!!!!!!!
yeah, i know those guys. those "more cultured" guys. the ones co-opting someone else's coolness and hoping the gloss of their talent will rub off on them for recognizing it at all. like that's hard. they wear their cool shirts, drink the right beer, take the right drugs, know all the right names for them, mock the ignorant in just the right way, blah blah blah. ...only listen to the right bands, blah blah blah. they're a fucking drag, wallowing in their own second-hand glory.
