I have a question I just went to my pre-op today at the hosiptal for my back surgery on Monday.. They told me that when I wake up after surgery that I will have a PCA System button that I can press as much as I want, to control pain.. It will have pain meds in it.. Sounds really cool.. But I didn't want to ask what kind of meds will be in this little magic button, that will deliver my pain medication.. I know you guys can't tell me what I will be given.. But I was wondering if you guys might know what kinds of stuff they usually put in here.. I'm really nervous about this surgery but this just gave me something to look forward to when I wake up.. And get to start wearing this little button out Thanks for any insight or experience you guys might have
A COUPLE THINGS to know about PCA'S,, ONE IS THAT EVEN THOUGH YOU CAN "HAVE AS MUCH AS YOU WANT",,ITS NOT REALLY AS MUCH AS YOU WANT..THEY FILL THE MACHINE WITH A CERTAIN AMOUNT FOR A CERTAIN TIME PERIOD,,ONCE ITS GONE,YOUR SHIT OUTTA LUCK TILL ITS TIME TO REFILL THE MACHINE.YOU WILL GET nothing else.. NUMBER 2,ENJOY THAT MOTHER FUCKER WHILE YOUR ON IT CAUSE WHEN THEY YANK YOU OFF YOUR PAIN MEDICATION DOSAGE IS GOING TO GO WAY THE FUCK DOWN.. oops sorry about the caps,,i aint rewriting it.. lol.. also the machine itself regulates how many times it will dispense per ,,session of button pushing.. i mean ya can only get it to dispense two or 3 button loads at a time.. so basically what im sayin is if i were you i would use it sparingly because otherwise you may regret it... and yes its always a morphine based drug in it...
Ya I'm aware of the fact that when its gone its gone but thats alright though cause I have enough oc 20s that I'm prescribed that I will be able to extend heaven LOL. tHANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES.. The nurse in Pre-op told me that with my pain level they will adjust accordingly.. She told me to make sure I tell them as soon as I wake up, what my pain level is so that way they up it sooner than later.. I told her, Thank you for the inside info But still I nervous as fuck about this surgery
Hey man. Not only am I having back surgery this Friday, but I had one 3 months ago this Friday, as well. When I came to after surgery I was shaking from the pain, to out of it to think of the pain button. The nurse saw me shaking (that's the 1st thing I remember), and came over and said 'let me get you some Morphie', and pressed teh button for me. So I'm pretty sure you'll get Morphine. You can press it as much as you want, but it's limited. Which is nice, so you don't kill yourself. Mine is out-patient, so the button gets pressed like 1 time, and within 30 minutes I'm up walking around and out the door (no more morphine). I got percocets for after. I only needed them for 24 hours.
Yeah. 2" incision. At home 2 1/2 hours after surgery starts. Last time I was pullin bingers within an hour and stayed up reading until 7am. Percocets keep me awake. But there are different kinds of back surgeries. Some are hell. Discectomies are a piece of cake.
Ya I hope it goes easy, I go in tomorrow at 11 and get out tuesday at 2pm so a little more than 24hrs. shouldn't be to bad I hope..
Well you're out of surgery by now. I'm sure it went routinely. Hope you're not too sore when you get home tomorrow. Don't lift or carry ANYTHING for 3 months, no matter what the Doc says. My second time remember? Good luck & godspeed on the recovery.
Well everyone I'm home from the hosiptal.. It went really well.. I couldn't believe it. I told them my tolerance and when I woke up they gave me my pump. I was on it for 21 hours till an hour ago before I left.. They gave me 4mg hydromorphone hits 3 times every hour and i had 3 mgs hits every 5 minutes for awhile then every 10 minutes and then they put it on continueous overnight.. It was awesome I felt great the hole time.. Boy were they nice.. They treated my pain very well, alot more than I thought they would.. I didn't even take any of my own meds.. So I hope it all goes well for you like they did me.. Oh ya, then they sent me home with 120 5mg oxycodones and 120 4mg hydromorphone..
Nice man glad it went well and you're home. So you got the Oxycodone's as I expected. I didn't expect the hydromorphone though. Nice.
Hell yea man , glad it went allright, I bet your having a blast with those meds... I've been snorting suboxone this week and doing klonopin so I can get my opiate tolerance back up.
Ya salmon, Man am i sore. none of these meds are making me comfortable.. i sure hope tomorrow is better.. Ya he sure set me up huh. i thought it was cool.. hopefully tomorrow i can enjoy them better also im afraid to shit i have a feeling its going to hurt..they did give me a softner though
Yeah, the soreness will decrease daily. It was easy for me because the nerve pain pre-surgery was so much worse than the soreness afterwords. As for breakin the ol' shit seal post surgery..I hear ya knockin. I waited until day 3 (this morning for you). And try not push! LMAO My surgery is exactly 48 hours from now...
HAHA, Yes shit flowed easy this morning, the softner they gave me worked great.. Salmon I sure hope yours go good to..You know its weird you don't feel the buzz when your hurting..100mgs of oxy and I was able to get out of bed for a minute lol but no enjoyablr buzz
Sorry I know this is an opiates forum, and I hate doing this, but when its this obvious I feel like I have to say something. Pal, stop focusing on the damn painkillers. It really sounds like you have a serious problem. I love pk's--trust me--and indulge recreationally occasionally and come on this forum to talk about them, but come on man you just had serious back surgery and all you can talk about is the morphine pump and the painkillers they gave you. Take it easy--these things are only good in moderation (and boy I know how good they are), otherwise they have the opposite effect. I'm not sure how much you are prescribed monthly but it sounds like you are developing a dangerous dependency and a dose of 100mg of oxycodone is nothing to joke about. You are prescribed large amounts of oxycontin monthly and your as giddy as a 7 year old at disney world over getting back surgery. I understand there are cases where people are prescribed high amounts of painkillers just in order to function, which is understandable--and you may be one of them--but even so, it is very obvious to me that it is beyond just physical dependency. I'm sorry (really) if I am coming off as a jerk--that is NOT my intention.
Too Crisp, don't take this personally but your Dam right I'M WORRIED about the fucking pain meds. Cause one of my biggest fears is the pain.. I have delayed this for along time cause of the fear of pain.. but after taking so many meds I needed to get this done..I would like to go back to where I can enjoy my meds intead of having to live off them.. It cracks me up when people come on these forums and play drug counsler.. You don't know my situation.. And yes to some people my meds might be high doses.. But over a 3yr period I went from 20mgs of Oxy to 80mg of Oxy Is not abuse. I have kept them as low as I can. So you can call it what you want but next time try not to council someone you know nothing about.. I also believe that after surgery Oxys might not be the best for pain, Cause after taking the 100mgs and it not helping,I had a friend go pick up my Norcos.. I took 40mgs and within an hour I was feeling alot better I've taken 30mg every 5hrs now and the pain level is down bigtime.. And before you tell me that 40mgs is to high a dose. I have been scripted the same norcos for 3 years without an increase 7 A day.. If I was abusing those to I would be at a hell of higher dose than that. So thanks for your input but please try and get some facts before you go ranting.. Cause I've read some of your forums and you seem bright with good input Pease So Salmon if the pain it alot try some thing with APAP in it.. I'm thinking that is what might be helping my pain level. This morning I can get out of bed without dying LOL
