like in the beat generation since gas is so expensive then more and more people will do it and then the people who hitch hike come together and share ideas and maybe that will start a marijuana revolution and people will start looking for alternative lifestyles (since everything is gonna get so expensive) and there you go... a new hippy movement yay I'm stoned. how are you?
I wish I could hitch hike. Believe me, I would. But sadly, there's too many freaks out there. You may never get out of the car...if you know what I mean. But your idea sounds like an amazing good dream. I'd join in
Hahaha, my boyfriend and I just went camping over the weekend, without a car. So we hitched into town and back for some bug spray. HItching is dangerous but you have to beleive that there are good people left in the world. We sure came across some of them.
Sharing ideas isnt going to start a revolution, especially between a few hithc hikers. Either the United States will return to it's essence of State runned government. Or the Federal Government will take complete control of our lives. Probably with the majority of us not even knowing it.
I love it! Good ole On the Road and Dharma Bums style....now I really want to reread that book. I just recently decided to get into backpacking. So for my birthday I got a few backpacking things like a good tent and a nice frame pack. I'm definitely into that sort of thing. I was telling this to people. That we are definitely going to see a rise in hitchhiking considering gas prices. I've already seen a few when I have never seen any before in my life. Also I'm thinking these rising costs of life are gonna drive most of us to have a revolution from the society where life costs big bucks instead of passion. Atleast we should.
Hitch Hiking is something i defidently want to do in this lifetime. Its really scary though specially for a girl cause there are some evil people out there! Hopefully all goes well .

Wow, I love this thread. To all the 'young hippies" ... I left my old life behind about three weeks ago to hit the road. I have no car, no money, nothing, and it's all unfolding so beautifuly. Dissreguard anybody who tells you that hitching rides and being a tramp all died in the 60's, cause it didn't. The past few weeks have been the most liberating, scary, amazing, fullfilling, endless, eye opening weeks of my life. It's great to live a dream you have had your entire life, and have everything fall into place. I suppose that hitching rides isn't for everyone, but it's a great way to go across country without paying a dime except for food and cigarettes, haha I left Pennsylvania in the begining of June, went to Chicago for a week, then headed South to visit my friend Lea in Mobile, Alabama. We're going to New Orleans next week, and then getting a ride from this kid Ryan to the Nationals in Wyoming. This trip is so much fun, and Nationals will be INCREDIBLE. Get on the road. Live your life. && love it.
Maybe we should start picking up hitchhikers. Be the change. If goodpeople started giving their brothers and sisters a needed lift more often, instead of speeding past wondering if they just passed a serial killer, perhaps it could be rekindled.
Marijuana revolution? Not to be rude or anything, but there isn't going to be any sort of revolution if you just smoke weed and dream up idealistic situations. And alternate lifestyles aren't going to help the fact that things will still get more expensive - oil is THE commodity of modern times. When oil gets more expensive, other things get more expensive. Cereal, water, building materials - they all have to be transported, and since we need oil to power our cars, its not going away anytime soon. And if we stopped using oil to power transport suddenly, then, well, a large part of the population of the world would starve, mostly city-dwellers and suburbanites like yourself. Since you have no way or knowledge to support yourself, or at least not enough time to learn how to support yourself and get, for example, food before you starve. Because no other fuel type is as cheap and efficient as oil. One or the other, but not both... Cheers! :cheers2:
Actually working to buy this radical '74 VW bus in El Paso so I can head for Portland or somewhere later this year, maybe a Kesey-esque road trip that anyone is welcome to come on, and hopefully some hitch hiking adventure. I'm heading to rainbow nationals this week hopefully.
