Advice on Going Out to Gay Bar

I guess you could say I came out recently - last December. But I have not at all pursued anyone or involved myself in gay life as other people seem to do. First of all, I am not flamboyant at all and I am not attracted to guys who are flamboyant. This makes for a difficult situation for me, since I would say at least 70% of gay guys are somewhat flamboyant. This also means that I am attracted to straight guys far more than I would like to be. Actually, I have had one hook up with a guy in my life and that was with a straight friend who wanted to experiment and it was pretty awful since I invested in it emotionally and he was not into it at all.

The real reason for writing this is that I think I am going out to a gay bar tonight and, since I have no gay friends, will be going alone. Does anyone have any advice about that? I would go with a friend, it would probably have to be a girl friend, but that would be problematic since if I want to hook up with a guy I would have to ditch the friend. I would basically be going to hook up. I could use some advice or comments from anyone who is gay.
