Ravi Shankar is pretty cool... he kind of bastardizes the instrument though. I do realize that that's the way it's actually supposed to be played, but everything Ravi plays seems extremely forced, while I myself enjoy the accompaning element of the sitar and blah blah blah and so on and forth, I have no idea what I'm talkin about... might as well just go listen to Love You To.

George was ridiculously humble... I think that eresh is talkin' about Sitareric, or whoever the fuck that kid was.

george's beard was fantastic and so was he until the 80's got hold of him.

has anyone seen a concert for george? that was the first time i saw anoushka shankhar play. goddamn she's amazing. and little known fact, norah jones is ravi's daughter, too.

Yeah, I saw Concert for George... I don't really like those concert for thingies... they all seem a little trite... I dunno... Concert for Freddy Mercury simply pissed me off because people just butchered Queen songs and the remaining members of Queen seem to be living robots who'd play a Queen song with anyone singing... no one can sing like Freddy, no one no one no one. It's nice and all to have a concert for the passing artist and so on... but ehh... the covers usually end up sucking and it just kinda ruins the legacy, no matter how touchy they try to make em.

Who are you, and how did you get in my soup?

    Garson? Gaaaarson!

    "Yes sir?"

My soup is dirty. There's a hippie in it.

"We'll make sure to flush it out sir, do forgive me. Would you like a complementary dessert for no charge?"

    Do you have any pudding?

    "Pudding...sir?"

Yes, mothafuckin' pudding. I want some mothafuckin' pudding. It makes me feel good. Makes me feel strong. Makes me feel mean and black.

    "Ahh... ok sir."

Give me that pudding you fucker, of I'll stick this fork in your eyeball!

    "That's a spoon sir"

    Mothafucka!

i thought george's was pretty amazing the whole way through... a full orchestra and band in albert hall directed by anoushka and eric clapton works for me. and yes... no one can sing like freddy. though i come purdy close when i sing prophet's song in the shower.

Yeah... I could see how one could like one of those tribute shows... I dunno... they're just not for me. There's always some wanker like Bono or George Michael singing a song that he has no right to sing.

...but singin' prophet's song... I'd have to hear it to believe it. Ever considered setting up a shower recording studio?

What do you like so much about Queen, Pavel?

They're another one of the incredibly overrated bands, IMO.

Freddy Mercury had the best voice in the world, for one.

They are not the greatest band out there, yet I've been listening to them ever since before I was born as my dad used to play Queen records to my mom while she was pregnant with me.

Aside from all the emotional attachment to the music, their music is very innovative, and extremely unique. Many people have copied Queen, and many people have adopted misrepresentations of their songs.

It's hilarious too see homophobic frat boys singing "We Are the Champions", which is obviously a gay anthem, in football stadiums.

Anyhow, Queen is extremely powerful. Their cataloge goes way beyond their popular stuff. They cover a range of genres, which is pretty cool. "Who Wants to Live Forever" is one of the most beautiful anthems ever written, per example... while "Seven Seas of Rhye" is just pure rockin'. The music is not lyrically dense, yet it still speaks to you. They don't try too hard, and the music has an extremely genuine and honest vibe to it.

...and no one can deny the sheer genius of Bohemian Rhapsody... no matter how many millions of times they've heard it.

Basically... it's rock n' roll in its purest form.

    Put the water on mute.

I'd do if for you, but I'm still practicing on my omnipresence skills. I'm getting really good with the omnipotence though.

"Bicycle Race" wouldn't be considered a "good" Queen song, yet it's not supposed to be a musical marvel, it's supposed to be silly... and it sure does manage to achieve that to perfection.
