i don't doubt more people have heard of george carlin then utah phillips. he died less then a month ago too. he was worth more then remembering; he was worth listning to. with any luck the link might be still up on amy goodman's site to her interview with him a couple of years ago.

i didn't think carlin was THAT funny, but his political statments were important, as were those of phillips.

George Carlin, thank you for having the balls to say what was on your mind no matter what the consequence, thank you for fighting the establishment instead of tucking your tail between your legs and running from them like so many other people do, thank you for saying NO to authority and showing other people it is ok to disagree with "the man"!!!!

It seems a little insulting to say "rest in peace" or "we will never forget you" so I will leave you all with this:

Shit, piss, fuck, ****, cocksucker, motherfucker and tits.

He was a genius for sure, making you laugh at the real issues and the sad powers behind them.

    AMEN!

This honestly pulls at my heart strings. Carlin was awesome. He said it, got in trouble for it, and yet stood by it.

I'm crying so hard right now... He was my first favorite comedian and the only one who had any kind of staying power that I really liked. We knew he was getting older... we could see it with every new special, but still... come on, the guy was like a god!

Apparently not enough. Love ya George. We'll miss you lots...

Carlin was great. He had a really off-center perspective of American culture.

Way back in the early 70s he used to be on the Flip Wilson show and did a character known as the Hippy Dippy Weatherman. :)

I loved George Carlin, this makes me sad

I don't even like much stand up comedy, but he was certainly one I did. Sometimes his stuff wasn't even "comedy" it was philosophy, and as has been mentioned...he was a voice of reason

    RIP

    Mitch Hedberg.

A little less didactic of a comic.

so George Carlin dies, and all you can think to do is rank him among other comedians?

This is why the internet sucks, everyone has to constantly rank things, bands, actors, movies, comedians...

Mitch and George aren't even in the same league. Mitch isn't worthy of sucking Carlin's dead wrinkled balls.

Anyhow, RIP Carlin... one hell of a fellow.

Aiight. So I was a little insensitive.

What can I say, I don't know the guy. All I know is his comedy.

BSR: You would think so. Cerebelum cultists.

Yes, I choose the intelligent and thoughtful comedian over the stoner comedian.

    How cultist of me.

Oh someone, lock me up in a library and shove books up my stretched out anus!
