I have no idea where else to put this and thought the forums would be a good place to get some input on this. I have read many articles on contesting speeding tickets. I was recently given a ticket for going 80 in a 65. The cop did not lock the radar gun so my speed was whatever he said it was, but I know they are not required to show me the radar gun. Does anyone have any tips or things I should do before or during court? Thanks a lot for anyone who can help.
It's better to just plead guilty and accept the reduced fine. If the cop shows up, the judge will most likely side with the cop. That's how it usually works.
Yeah you'd be fighting an uphill battle. No point. You were obviously going over the speed limit anyway. Whether it was that much over or only a little over is irrelevant. Deal with it.
From what I have read from Lifehacker to multiple other people, it seems like many people get off on minor technicalities or with the cop not remembering it good enough. I really can't afford a ticket, or any raise in insurance since I have no job (My dad pays for all this.)
If you own a new enough car you can take it to the dealership and have them hook it up to the computer. The on car computer stores such data with time logs (warranty reasons) and then you could present this information to the courts as to exact speed. You have a limited time window (like 7-14 days) or information will be over wrote. Now they wont do this for free either.
You kinda deserve the ticket if you were indeed going above the speed limit. I don't see a reason to contest it otherwise. Think of all the time and gas money that you'll save by not going to court.
In England speeding tickets are done by automatic camera. There are ways round it once u get the ticket - but thats a secret....; ) Also I wonder if you *reverse* past a speed camera very fast - does that erase the speeding ticket that the computer logs? Or can you say "ahh youre camera's shit , it said I was doing 120 in reverse ,as well"? PS you could also say the cop tried to fondle your dick if you didnt pay an on the spot fine.: )
I got a speeding ticket that I was going to try and fight instead I lost it and forgot to pay it and it doubled :toetap05: 450 bucks later...
Then dont go over the limit. Everyone kinda does, but if you cant afford it, dont. Youre 16. Time to get a job.
You're not going to successfully contest a speeding ticket. Unless the cop doesn't show to court. In which case, you can win rather easily. Move to dismiss it as the issuing officer isn't there.
how did you know the cop didn't use the radar? where there any other cars around you going the same or faster than you? plenty of my friends have beaten a ticket with the cop showing up, so i don't buy it that it can't be done or its hard to do. i know places where they will continue at a later date so the cop will be able to come in - so you can't always bank on the cop not showing up and getting a dismissal. the only reason i don't speed now is the gas. its not worth it.
I've fought about 5 tickets in my day, and I only got out of one, because the officer didn't show up. I don't know if in Cali you the officer has to show, but in Mass they do. Anyway try to fight it, you probably won't get out of it but they'll reduce the ticket to the smallest possible fine, only it'll still go on your insurance. The only thing I've really ever heard work is if you know a [shady] mechanic you can ask if they'll print up a pretend receipt that says they fixed your spedometer. You tell the judge/magistrate you didn't know you were going over as the spedometer was broken and you were following the flow of traffic, but you got it fixed now. Show the receipt. But mechanics won't do this, unless they're your brother.
