My mom has very thin hair, and now she wants dreadlocks. So she asked me to seperate her hair in little rubber bands so that we could decide how big she wants her locks to be. But the rubber bands slid almost right out. Does anyone have any tips for fine hair? This is a picture of her, so you guys can kind of see what it is like.... Just remember, fine and soft! Thanks!
you should make 'm tighter i think. but if you decide to backcomb the bands will stay in because the locks are thicker than the roots.
okay so get some peanutbutter and jelly mixed verry well and spread it all over her hair now for real get few good metal combs and backcomb verry well till get hurts do it good thats all realy good backcombin helps a lot then dont wash for 3 or 4 weeks it realy helps trust me and thats all separate roots once in a while and wash with no reduce go to some healt shop they good bunch of good shampoo thats all its realy easy and enjoy the journey
You have to wash anyway for the hair to lock, if you dont for 3,4 weeks you'll just have oily hair and that's it, won't lock. Don't have much idea for the rubber band but if you mom don't backcomb her hair and just do it natural she won't need any bands, just residue free soap and thats it, with time it will seperate by itself and congo, you choose to let it congo or not after for bigger or smaller dreads.
I told her that she could just go natural, but she wants to backcomb. Hey, it's up to her though. It just hit me, though. I thought maybe using a salt/lemon juice mixture might help her hair lock better (and mine). Also she wants it lighter, so the lemon juice would help with that. If I was to mix luke warm water with lemon juice and salt, what kind of salt would I put in the mix?? Could I use plain table salt? I don't think I HAVE to use sea salt... or would epsom salt? Lol, that sounds silly, I know it's for sprains and that kind of stuff, but I figured it wouldn't hurt just to ask.
have her washing with a ligth diluted version of bronners and dash of seasalt and lemon juice every few days for a little while and see what that does. make sure she lets it sit while shes in the shower and then washes it out real good. and dont comb, just run her fingers through. after a week or two see if her hair texture changes at all, and it should definetly lock up easier after being backcombed.
i don't endorse the backcombing method, but if she insists, then should probably start treating her hair as if she has dreads. By that I mean, wash it every couple days, don't comb, then it will get a little natty, and maybe the rubber bands will stay in better...
Thanks guys. I made the mix, too, and it's kinda helping I guess. Well, if she does end up dreading, I'll post some pictures to show how they're turning out, probably.
