Hey fellow hipsters i am going on a Cruise to Alaska this saturday and i have a stop in victoria. I was wondering if any locals could point myself and my girlfriend in the right direction to some fun.

The cruise line is fairly tailored to the older croud and being that i have read victoria is mostly elderly people i was wondering if it is even possible for some young adults to find fun. I will be in port from 6PM until midnight and it would be nice to meet some cool people or at least have more fun than touring with the family.

I've heard many good things about Vancouver and i wouldnt mind spending some cash to get there but i am afraid it wont be worth the trouble or if there would even be enough time.

    Anyone have any suggestions?:cheers2:

Greeting! It's a shame you will be in Victoria for only a few hours as we have much to show people. While it's true that Victoria has a disproportionate number of retired and elderly people (we also have a large number of newly weds - newly wed and nearly dead, as we call it around here), we are also the tourist capital of Canada.

Downtown can keep you occupied for your entire duration. From my understanding, you will either be dropped off at the inner harbour, or in James Bay. If you get dropped off at James Bay, it's a short 10 minute walk to downtown and the inner harbour, which is ultimately where you want to be. Many performers make their way to Victoria during the summer and put on street shows at the inner harbour. It also has carvers, portrait drawers, and many other craftsmen and artists who are selling their talents. It can be quite the romantic way to pass the time. There are also horse carriages and tour buses that go around town; there is the wax museum, the Royal BC Museum, and Undersea Gardens (but I don't know if they're open in the evening, except for the RB Museum which has extended hours until 10:00 pm). This weekend we're having the Tall Ship festival, so you might want to check that out as well.

Other than that, feel free to check out the Victoria tourism calender of events:

I hope you have a good time on your trip, and enjoy Victoria! Feel free to message me if you have any questions. :)

PS: getting over to Vancouver is impossible given the time you will arrive and how short your stay will be. It's at least a 1/2 hour drive to get to the ferry terminal, a 1 1/2 hour ferry ride, and an additional 1/2 hour to get from the terminal to Vancouver.

PPS: do yourselves a favour and stay near the inner harbour. As you get into downtown and outside of china town, you will begin to see a lot of homeless, beggars, and junkies. Better to avoid it altogether if you can.

I had been banned for spam for some reason. I contacted someone about that, and it's all been corrected.

The homeless aren't so bad - they just sit or stand on the sidewalk with signs and stuff. Many of them are pretty cool, but some of them will try to sell you things that are most likely stolen. The junkies, on the other hand... well, let's just say that there are a few of them who aren't afraid of setting up their rigs in public and shooting up. A lot of them end up doing the nod against a public building. They generally leave well enough alone, but it's a sad sight.
