I was wondering if anyone took the time to use a guide when tripping anymore??? Thats a bit much to ask," hey I wannna trip, so could you stay straight so I could have the time of my life?" and how do you find someone you trust that much? We always tripped together but nobody ever stayed sober to make sure everything went well, like Ive read about. but if i had one at times, I think it would have worked out better. I dont think Id mind doing that for friends, I think Id make a good guide, but 8-12 is a long time.

i dont know anyone in real life that has ever used a guide, i never have either...

sometimes when my friends or I do something crazy we do it one at a time, just in case someone flips the fuck out, but i wouldnt say we were guides

its just like a strategy guide to a video game, I don't use them for I like to discover my own path. The first time I did mushrooms I didn't know ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING about the psychedelic experience. I find it like taking the leap of faith. If you know your a good person, you'll have a ball.

when we go to festivals with our /big/ group (as opposed to like 4-5 of us camping, it'll be like 30 of us that loosely know each other [mostly from previous festivals]), a lot of nights there's usually at least one person staying relatively sober (smoking and drinking and occasionally rolling) that tends to watch over all the tripping pals. just checks in every hour or two or whenever he/she sees you to make sure everything's cool and to spread some good vibes.

on salvia we usually just go one at a time because some of us have done some pretty ridiculous shit while out of our minds on it, but this is not hard considering the duration

    beyond that, not really

the greatest guide is yourself. Psychedelics are the eyes to look into your own soul. i like being myself but i also like tripping with friends. as for a sober guide, i think thatd just make me more nervous because that would make it seem like something is likely to go wrong. flow like water my friend, you cant lose.

guides are one of the things that the textbooks always say to do but no one ever does. its [probably] like condoms and sex.

Obviously none of you have ever worked with a real shaman . .

It's OK. That's what happens in our weird, messed up civilization.

It's true, without a shaman, you are your best guide.
    So until you meet one,
    godspeed

I would probably not do any crazy psychedelics without a guide if I were to. And by guide, I don't mean a friend, relative or anything, I mean someone who..is deep? Someone who I know I can trust yet also is insightful and...uh...deep, I guess. I don't know how to explain it. I guess what I mean to say is that I'm not keen to do psychedelics because I already look into things and around them and whatnot to the point that I feel like I'm tripping but I'm sober. I can get overwhelmingly burned just by thinking about an idea or an object that it will lead to me questioning everything that is and ever will be. I would need someone like myself who would be able to bring me back to sanity in a drugged state, 'cause I'd be worried that I would get too carried away and do something dangerous to myself.

I know I probably sound like an idiot or a prick but I would say that for me, a guide would be a necessity, at least for the first few times. If someone doesn't need psychedelics to look into themselves and the world, then they should be worried about how much deeper they go and what they will find when on drugs, right? My two cents anyways, even though it prolly don't make much sense....

I usually do it with a friend who's also high. On ecstasy (not hallucinogenic but pretty insane my first time) I let my friend try it, waited half an hour to see how he was, then I tried mine. With mushrooms, he had taken it before so he knew what it was about, and we both did it at the same time. Trust seems to be the main point, here; I think a "guide" is anyone you love and trust, who can either give you information on what your experience will be like or who will take care of you if you end up needing them to :)

Me and my friends who are very experienced psychonauts have taken people out into the woods and been their guides for their first trips. We are tripping as well, but we are all very good at tripping.

Haha yeah the woods are an awesome place to trip with people new to psychedelic wonderland.
I once was on a mountain with 4 friends and each of us had ingested a total of 3,5 grams of different cubensis strains.
As we were exploring the woods and trying to guide the 2 people of our group who were new to psychedelics to a positive mindstate we suddenly reached a glade. So we sat there enjoying the somehow purple and turquoise stars and apperantly talking a bit loud because suddenly we heard someone shouting my name!
I was terrified to death and so were my friends (we were in the middle of nowhere) but I decided to investigate the source of the sound, only to find a dude lying there in the grass with a cussion and a blanket in the middle of the night, telling me politely to keep my voice down because 'some people here want to sleep' :D
At that time I thought he was Jesus sent from above :) because it was unexplainable for me how a random person in the most remote part of an even remoter forest could possibly know my name!

back in the day i would get someone to be on call for me, a close friend who wouldn't hang but would be ready to bail me out in the event that I or a fellow tripper started losing it, but I don't think I need one anymore.

with that said, i should also mention that i usually just secure a ride and take whatever drug it is i've got without telling anybody. one time i ate what i thought was a pot brownie at a party, but turned out to be fungus. great shrooms. awesome party. since then I've kinda just liked to keep my thoughts and observations to myself while I trip, and take immense satisfaction that no one knows what kind of amazing things are happening inside my head.

ultimatly. but as the taoist so eloquently put it...the unamable gives birth to one, a single phenomenon. the one gives birth to two, and the single phenomenon divides itself in two. the two gives birth to three, for there must be somthing between every polarity. and the three give birth to myraid things

therefore, is someone holds the one as the ultimate truth he must neglect the two. if he holds the two, he must neglect the three. if he holds the three....
when we lay it out like this we can say that each stage is the reality of the universe. but we cannot hold one stage as being the complete reality, it is only a matter of perspective. best to ignore the one, the two, the three, the many. we cannot take a part as the whole, because a part is not the whole. and we cannot take the whole as the whole, because any part is the whole.

this is the nature of the realm we are born into. we are individuals with infinate possibilities to explore. some of these possibilities are more "wholesome" than others....meaning our choices and intentions are either aligning our conciousness with unity, or they are not.

i feel like guidence is valid. especially in such an infinate expance as the one we find ourselves in. especially in such an infinate expance as the psychedelic realms. thats what the shamans role is. (an archetype i believe to be far older than humanity, it seems somthing written into the cosmic blueprint) not a guide as if to say, "this is the way" but a guide that says. "this is where we are, if you hold yourself like this, you will emerge unscathed, filled with light"

like a raven that sits on an open windowsill at dawn, he calls to you...reminding you of your dreams.
