damnn i wish i was up in NY right now. I'll be up there just 20 minutes from yasgur farms sometime in the winter.
Yasgurs farm is no more. The Woodstock-Bethel Reunion is no more. The original site was (probably illegally) taken in 1997 by a rich guy and his gang and is no longer open to hippie camp-ins. People who wander up to the hill are subject to arrest. You can still gaze at the memorial monument, remember what once was.... and then leave. No trespassing signs, fences and gates abound. The place is constantly patrolled. If you go there for a concert in the summer, you will be searched on the way in and out, prevented from bringing in your own food or drink, and monitered the whole time you're there. If you light up you'll be subject to arrest. The tickets food and drink are priced for well-off yuppies. You'll have to rent an overpriced motel or campground weeks in advance if you want to stay over. I used to live there. I know what I'm talking about. I know what happened, and how and why....It's no different from the hippie squelching and crushing of free speech....that's going on all over the country. So if you want to see the monument for an hour or two...you're welcome.
Sadly what you stated comes as no suprise to me. I knew yasgur's farm was no more. and sadly as for now as close as i have gotten was a few steps past the memorial "tomb" looking rock. Too bad its all that is left besides the memories of the ones that were there. I will return again when im back up in the catskills. I am thinking of putting something permenant along side the memorial to remind people of the hidden oppressions we are enduring.
