WTF? is that true? i mean, i get the creepy crawlies here, and i'm not even doing anything the least un-housewifely. okay, i'm a little paranoid, too, and i hate my picture being taken when i'm not posing. but WOW, are they actually effective? and if they are, are they worth it? http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,91211-1319813,00.html?f=rss
CCTV are cool, Im watching a whole bank of monitors right now... Funny we have ones on the outside of the building that can zoom in for a over a mile of clear color video. I think they have gone to far with this shit though. Why do we need to see that far?
I've heard that statistic also, apparently though they are mostly a waste of money as nothing is ever done with the majority them.
I read recently that generally the images are of such poor quality that they can't be used in evidence. I think they're mainly intended as a deterrent rather than an effective law enforcement tool (i.e. to keep us all scared and docile).
Yeah, there was an article in the Indy on it. I think about half of them are off the majority of the time or fault. It's most likely what Roffa's saying. They need to be severely cut back as far as I'm concerned. Not entirely mind, if you use 'em sensibly enough then they can help solve a lot of crimes.
It probably is true, I don't know. But, when nearly every shop has one, when nearly every building in a built up area has one. It seems fairly safe to assume the statistic is true. I say: So what? Only paranoid freaks worry too much about it. I've gone weeks not worrying about it. What I would be worried about is if my place of work had a camera watching me. How would I log onto the Internet and get away with it. Thats right, I would not.
well with the state of weapon crime in our cities maybe one on each corner might be a way forward, stop the thugs ruling the streets
This may not make sense so forgive me. A police state is a bad thing. A heavily policied state can be a good thing. An unchecked heavily policied state is a bad thing.
I don't think it is bad, and I'd like to think I have atleast half a brain. If you can name me a few negatives, maybe I'll alter my mind. IMO - As CCTV has been around for about 50 years, and the worst thing I have heard is some half baked analogies to 1984 (what human activity is not associated with that book by some whack job?). I think i'll sleep well, in my bed, tonight.
There were Camera's all over my Town... I Felt Self Concious to Scratch my Bum... One Camera had a Habit of turning and Following me near Ferry... Ho Hum...
Take your pick: The operator was probably looking at your bum. The camera moved left to right (or right to left) and when you turned around, it looked like it was moving to look at you.
if one in 14 people commit a crime then i suppose it makes sense, and i bet one in 14 people commit crimes
