So let me say I am not a christian or gay, I'm not trying to anger anyone, just making a point. Ok so I see all these right wing, christian types talking about how homosexuality is so terrible. Like it's some terrible disease you will catch if we don't stomp it out. But hey Jesus hung out with hookers, and lepers, I could really see him as the type of person who would not care if you were gay. Wasn't his message to love everyone? Do you really think if you die and you find the gates of heaven that they will say "well you lived a good life, but you treated gay people like equals and gave them love, respect, and rights, so uh guess you go to hell" I always hear you say "only god can judge me" So why don'y you let God judge gay people. If they are somehow "wrong" he will take care of that right. Isn't the most "christian" thing to do to treat them as you would anyone else. Now you can quote some bible passages that could be interperted to say homosexulaity is wrong. But the bible was written by men, men that were told the word of god correct. So isn't it possilbe that some personal opinion got into the book. Every author puts his own spin on things. So I guess what i am asking is if anyone could explain to me how someone being gay is a threat to them as a hetrosexual christian.
Great question. The fad in Christianity is to be hypocrytical, unfortunately. Traditionalism resides in conservativism, & being open to gays would somehow disrupt a comfort zone & make people feel uncomfortable maybe? If that makes sense... I myself find it ridiculous to be homophobic. Especially for the Christians claiming to be so self-righteous when they make the biggest stink about it.
Would Jesus love a gay person? Hard to say, because as far as we know he didn't say a single word about the subject, which is pretty interesting in itself, if being gay is such a big deal.
I don't believe in sanctity or hypocrisy.. had to say that. i think the general idea is jesus would love you but not except you as you are. yes he hung around sinners and such, but they where following him as the messiah & forsaking all else. not religious, but i have read the bible a few times.. & it seems like this is pretty obvious throughout the gospels. but go ahead and believe what you want (i really don't care)
Jesus is supposed to love everyone for their true selves, just as God is supposed to. I remember a post on the site earlier which showed that the biblical passage about Sodom wasn't actually condemning homosexuality in particular, which works out. Dick + dick has been a popular way of doing things for quite some time, since (and possibly before) the greeks. Lust is considered sin whether it's heterosexual or not, but if it's simply a matter of love of the homosexual nature, it's blameless. What is able to be blamed is shit like this: http://www.godhatesfags.com/ I can understand being disgusted by the idea of homosexuality just fine, but wow. Yes; but the question of forcing compliance from others comes about when you think you're "saving them", or "doing God's work" by ridding the world of sin. This is also where most of the crazy shits come into play
The pleasures of the flesh are a gift from the Lord; the Brethren stands unconcerned. Cavets upon the Lords gifts are a failing of the corrupt. Let love permeate the life of all. Is such not the message of Christ?
True saints won't see you as anything but human. Others will see you as Gay, or Black or Jewish, or Palestinian, etc. Saints don't dwell on such small details. x
in my opinion biblical christianity is the harshest doctrine out there.. and i don't kno if you all are refering to this in your conversation; but if you are, you have no idea what you are talking about. just letting you know.. it's hard for me to believe that anyone can live according to it
I'd say, sadly, you are wrong. I have a little trouble thinking he loved everybody, no question. But, the whole anti-homosexual thing seems a little too convenient to the prejudices of the time and that has continued.
I'd like to have some deep and meaningful reason. But, I think I am just projecting my own prejudices onto him.
Fair enough, maybe he did, but to the suggest he is gay, is stretching it a little. I'll apologise for being dismisive, but I have heard that comment too many times for me to take it seriously.
i'm pretty sure that jesus confronted ppl that were living in "sin".. if you don't believe this than you haven't read the new testament. he was the first to mention hell, the lake of fire, and mentioned it around 30 times? no, but he was really ok with everyone.. "do what thou wilt" was his motto. or was it crowley's.. wait jesus was crowley
