... is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. we spend more, but we have less. we have bigger houses and smaller families, more convenienes, but less time. we have more degrees but less sence, more knowledge, but less judgement, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. we drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, and laugh too little. we have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love to seldom, and hate too often. we have learned to make a living, but not a life. we have added years to life but not a life to years. we have been all the way to the moon and back but we have trouble crossing the street to meet a new individual. we have done larger things, but not better things. we plan more but accomplish less. we have learned to move fast, but not to slow down. these are the times of fast food and slow digestion. big men and small character. these are the days of fast talk, but nothing said. it is a time when there is much in the show window but nothing in the stockroom. a time when technology can bring this letter to you. remember to give a hug to those you love because that is one of the only treasures you can give with your heart and it doesnt cost a cent. give time to love, give time to speak, give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
all complete bullshit. takes on a treacly, innnacurate and rosy-lensed view of history and how people behaved. scrap it.
This all sounds cool and right. But I'm sure people have been saying these seem thing's through out history any time in history. But it is good to pause and reflect. Peace
yeah. i dislike historical inaccuracies and "everything is so fucked up now, but it used to be so much better!!" it annoys me. people need to live in the now, not just complain about it.
i'm a nowist. i like seeing things for what they are right now and doing whatever bit you can to make it better if it needs it. i love studying history, people, places, sociology in general, though i'm a bit far behind. but so far as i can tell, it was just as good and bad in the past as it is now.
People fail to realize that there was a whole lot more man on man crime back in the day. Dude, I miss the 15th century... I wish I lived back in Spain, during the time of the inquisition... people were much more outgoing and spiritual back then. All of these comforts? Pfff... who needs them, I want to live in constant fear of my life, without being able to express my thoughts in public. That makes life REAL. People these days seem to undermine the simple yet unbelievable beauty of free speech. You can say whatever you want? Do you know what kind of an enormous achievement that is for society? This kinda shit didn't even exist 50 years ago.
you could say whatever you wanted. but this particular time has one narrow benefit, traded for another. sort of free speech.
