what do you do if you have dreads and want to go back to normal hair? do you have to cut it all off?

Unfourtunetley yes.... though in some cases, you can try to grow it out a bit.
then cut 2 inches from the root. Try to comb that out useing major amouts of conditioner and so forth.
Other then that, dreads are to formed to do so.

But who would want to chop off a beautiful set of locks?

i had dreads for about a year

i loved them, i hated them.
finally I took them out, and let me tell you, it was hell. It would have been easier if I was a guy, cause I could have just shaved my head... but no. I spent 5 and a half hours brushing those bad boys out. had to cut off the big monster, still growing that part out. But They damaged my hair so badly. It doesn't grow in the same, it looks so lifeless. There's no part in it, like it just goes everywhere. I'm trying to nurse it back to life.

But on a happier note, those look fantastic. Keep up the good work!

i went to a music festival about a month ago--no showers, no brushing--now i have a totally nappy and locked-up set of dreads. my hair also used to be almost to my lower waist, not it's about up to my ears-it's gotten so fucking short. any easy methods of getting dreads out? i would want to keep them, but they keep locking up and are so short!

    thanks all,
    courtney
