A definition from a congressman found here (it's a pdf): "Extraordinary rendition is the secretive practice of extra-judicial transfer of detainees to foreign governments for interrogation, usually because the foreign governments are willing to use harsh interrogation techniques, including torture, that would not be legal in the United States." A definition found on this site: "'Extraordinary rendition' is the euphemism we use for sending terrorism suspects to countries that practice torture for interrogation. As one intelligence official described it in the Washington Post, 'We don't kick the sh*t out of them. We send them to other countries so they can kick the sh*t out of them.'" LaughinWillow posted a thread in America Attacks: this one. I can read there, but cannot post there yet because of my membership status. Anyway. I read it and was pretty appalled. So I went searching to see if there was anything more about it online. I found a few news stories, a TON of blogs, the actual Bill on the library of congress site, and the site of a congressman who has drawn up a legislation that would basically keep our country from sending our SUSPECTS to these nations where torture is practiced during interrogation and detention. I found all the things I've read utterly disgusting, and have tried to concentrate on the best sources I could find on the net for learning about this. First I'll direct you to the actual bill and the sections in question. Sections 3032 and 3033 of HR 10 (the 9/11 Commision Bill):: read 3032 hereread 3033 hereread whole thing here if you want (if the two above don't work, you can go to this one and scroll down to those sections...if this one doesn't...oy...i dunno lol) And then here is the Congressman's site: Congressman Markey. It's not hard to find his links to this issue. A quick read down and you'll find the word torture. Click there :/. A political blog with a wealth of information, including a link to a site from where you can write to your representative. (I'm linking to a certain post, but there is much more, and also, easy to find...links galore!): Obsidian Wings And another political blog, by a republican, just to show that this issue is indeed something that all parties can, and in my opinion should, be up in arms about: Sebastian Holsclaw This is what I have found. If you want to search yourself, go right ahead of course. I'm not the best with search engines for some reason anyway. But with all of these, and the articles I did find, it's been enough to absolutely piss me off. I have written to my representative as well as encouraged my friends parents and fiance to (and I know he has already). I think everyone should about this. My opinion though. If anyone has any good reason why we shouldn't, I'd love to hear it. I just had to put my two cents in...but since I couldn't in the America Attacks forum, I figured this would be a good place. Ta ta!
