I just heard on tonight's main media NBC news that Collin Powell has been contacted by both candidates and that his endorsement would be important.

Why would the opinion of a man that made porta potties WMD in front of the UN in order to start a pre-emptive war be considered influential. WHY? Ask yourself that, and what have they paid him for his attendance, and what will they pay him for his endorsement. Don't buy the hype!

The title of my thread reminds me of an Harry Potter spell, I think we should all cast it on all the candidates, maybe we would see what they are actually made of instead of what they have been marketed as being.

If this election is all about change, then the man that sold us porta potties shouldn't be held in high esteem.

I wonder how much his son is worth now?

I don't think he saved any of them or their investors. But he probably doesn't worry about what gas or milk costs either.

I am sure the cable and satellite companies have paid him plenty.

I bet his economic trend spiralled up, what has your's done. It seems we sold our analog airwaves for one reason, more money. And we as taxpayers didn't even sell them we gave them away. It's time to ask who profits?

I think that he's probably the most respected person to have served under bush. I know that's like winning a geriatric bathing-beauty contest, but it does count for something.
Because he's to the left on many issues, and because he's African-American, there is a decent chance that he'll back obama in 08. This would help obama get votes from conservative-leaning independents and liberal-leaning conservatives.

The importance of Powell's appeal isn't to black people(who are overwhelmingly leaning towards Obama), it's to moderate conservatives and conservative independents. Obama's major stumbling block at the moment is his percieved lack of experience, his lack of foreign-policy experience, and his lack of support from the military.
Colin Powell is seen as having a lot of support from the military, as well as foreign policy experience.
It's nothing major, just an endorsement, and probably has little effect in the long run.

Colin Powell could have been president already if he hadn't signed on with Bush in the first term. He dirtied himself when he did.

I had respect for the man up to that point.

This man couldn't shovel the neocon stables fast enough for his handlers though. I like to think he did so on purpose.
