I have been using/abusing painkillers off and on for about 4 years and it was just recreational until about 9 months ago. I have been taking a wide variety of whatever I could find from vicodin to OC. I'm now reguarly taking (snorting) 80 to 120mgs of OC a day. I am so tired of this and want to quit, real bad.
I have to admit, my resove is bad. But I am tired of living two lives. I am looking for any and all advice and tips on what can make this easier. To be honest, I am scared shitless of not having any. I have gone for a couple days without before and it's horrible... cold sweats, sore everywhere, can't sleep, terrible mood.
Having done at least 80 mgs/day and up to 160 mgs/day for the last month and a half... How long without anything will it take for me to not feel any withdrawls? Any tips on making it easier? Any info will help... THANK YOU!

Methadone clinic. I just went yesterday...im heroin addict. Yes, it is replacement therapy..but it is replacement therapy you are in control of. Just tell the doctor you dont wanna be on the methadone for more than three months and theyll have you all set and off opiates in no time.

I completely understand...I have been on oc for a little over a year...I don't think I have gone 24hrs off I am terrified...you may also look into suboxone...its easier than a methadone clinic cuz you don't have to go everyday you just go once a month and they give you a script...so your completely in control of what you take...I tried it, but of course the addiction won, and I went back to oc...you have to be completely ready...also I think some sort of treatment or counsoling is really important...I thought that I could just go on the subs and be fine, but you have to overcome the addiction!!! Your mind is addicted just as much as your body...you can do it though believe in yourself, and WANT it..its your life and opiates are robbing it from you...Good Luck!!!

I went the suboxone route too but part of being an addict is that we have little to no self control. Thats why this time I chose methadone because it will put me in such a controlled environment that I CANT go back to dope or I get kicked out of methadone. Plus it provides me counseling, doctors, etc, etc. Everything I need.
    Good luck, guys!

Methadone seems to have the highest success rate. You do HAVE to want it. Good Luck, loelyfayd.

Congratulations, nirmalamaya, on your success so far. Good luck and remember that it will be worth it.

If you can, avoid any methadone or suboxone program, and try to buy a few suboxones off the street and a few benzos, so you dont become addicted to the subs, just enough to get you through the first 8 or 9 days. Decrease your suboxone dose every few days. After that just have willpower, and delete all your dealers numbers, use your free time doing something productive, or something you enjoy that doesnt involve drugs. If you like weed, smoke you feel a craving for oxy. Although sometimes this can trigger people and make them do oxy.

  7. ^ this.

Suboxone and Methadone are both very tough...but whatever works!

    Good luck!

Thanks for all the reply's everyone. You all seem so genuinely concerned and gave me great feedback, nice to see that there are still some good folk out there. I have decided to drop my OC intake by 1/2 every two to three days and have aquired some 5mil methodones that will hopefully see me through the last few days. I think that if I tough it out, get some good sleep (I am foreseeing a lot of naps in my future) and pray hard I am going to make it through. Thank you so much for your support! I'll let ya'll know how it goes!

I think tapering on the OC is the best bet--you can avoid the extreme sickness and cravings while bringing you closer to your goal. The taper method is safer than cold turkey for most drugs and less of a shock to your body. The rest is just will power, learning to fill your days with things to keep you busy, not getting bored, and dealing with emotions without drugs (or at least opiates). A little bit of weed for when the times get tough works wonders, as do soothing herbal teas and relaxation techniques.

I just finished a really good book about breaking addiction that said when trying to quit drugs, you should use the HALT system: avoid being Hungry, Angry, Lonely, and Tired, as these are the times you're most likely to relapse. It suggested all kinds of herbal and spiritual remedies and affirmations/activities to replace drugs from sugar to amphetamines. I suggest hitting up the library's "self-help" section or doing a Google search on natural ways to quit drugs for more. It's gonna take full immersion in interests like these to keep your mind off drugs, especially in the beginning. Good luck!!!!!!!

sleeping pills don't really work if your withdrawaling hardcore, it just makes you more tired and weirded out.

Go the taper route. Going on sub or 'done from OC is too hardcore: jumping from fry pan into the fire. If it was H, well heck yea, I'd go the 'done or sub way. But not from OC or hydro.
