Out of curiosity I thought I would pose a message to all of you that I have thought about often. I didn't really know where to post this specifically in this forum so I just decided here, feel free to move it if necessary. I am curious to see what other people think on this matter. My question is; if you had the power to save humanity would you?

To elaborate more, do you think we have done so much harm to our planet and fellow species that we are better off not living on it? Do you think we lost the right to live here? Or do you think that we should have another chance, that if we all try we can save the planet and ourselves. I really like the latter option because I think if we really did all try as hard as we could, humans could somewhat compensate for the damage we already have done. Sometimes, though, I think that we will just keep going on until we have destroyed this planet. All responses and thoughts would be much appreciated.

Much love,

YES! but only if by doing that I enable humans to enter a state of mind where calm and awareness are the norm, allowing them to change the world.

If I had the power I would not just replant all the trees, depollute the river, ect., unless people have a more peaceful and mindful state of mind, cause the problems would just appear again in 30-50 years....

Just my train of thought... I think the problem with people and politicians is that they expect positive change to come from an outside sources (politics, economy, etc.), but never look in the inside. It looks silly perhaps, but until people arn't looking at the world with joy, happiness, love and mindfulness, no political system, however well designed, will ever work out perfectly.

So yes, I would save humanity if I had the power... but it depends what ''saving'' means for you. It's not the miracle type of savior, it's more... know yourself, cause otherwise you won't be able to save anyone else.

Just my thoughts...

No.

Humans are thick headed and arrogant.

If you didn't make them lie in the bed they've made for themselves, they'd learn nothing.

But humans are children. I cut them slack for that reason.

Just think of humanity's goal to convert all the world into something useful for itself, you know?

No, but more seriously; I hate to be one of those people giving the "the planet will do fine" spew, but as far as it goes, it's pretty true. At the worst we have the power to do, life will still continue. Life is an amazing, wonderful property for matter to possess; and just like matter and energy, it doesn't quite get destroyed (at least easily). The life of a dead goat becomes the life of trillions of bacteria, hey hey?
Besides, an appreciation of the beauty of the Earth's original state at the dawn of our kind is merely a human creation. What will be there to appreciate it if not us?

I see you're rather touched with the human condition as well then, xenon :p

This is because you're on the wrong coast and don't know any better. :)

I know the human condition quite well. Not only from my own experiences but also from my highly empathic nature. I CAN walk a mile in another's moccasins.

I see common ideas that escape most. The more self centered you are, the more you'll lose this ability. In a culture such as we have today, individuality has gotten us into trouble.

Personal profit, over the good of the hive.

The great disparities we have in wealth around the world, are a result of this being THEIR world, not ours.

Once you can prove this to people, they'll act on it.

But there is great resistance from the powers that be. They control the media. They control your money in their banks. They write the laws that tell you what is acceptable and what is not.

And the most embarrasing truth is you gave them permission to do so by your SILENCE.

The law belongs to those who can yell the loudest. If you can't be heard, you WILL be herded.

Think on this.

That I agree with; I had thought at first you were popping shots at humanity a little harshly

I am harsh with humanity in the modern day. Their hour is late.

They have no idea what approaches.

Give them enough slack and they'll hang themselves. No more slacking now. It's make or break time for them.

Why the modern day? Humans were much worse just a century ago, let alone throughout history. Hell, by any standards, the humans of the modern day are the nicest, most responsible humans.

I don't think we - I don't say 'them', as it is utterly preposterous for a human to do so - have the power to destroy the world.

We may destroy our own civilization, we may make a big mess. But probably some bacteria at least would survive to begin the whole process of the gradual ascent towards consciousness over again.

I'd agree also that in general humans are better now then in past ages, at least outside parts of the world still ruled by medievalism.

Eugene: I will agree with you that by most standards humans are much more responsible. But I think that fundamentally we remain the same, and we have the capability in modern times to do so much more harm than we have ever had in the past.

BlackBillBlake: I'm sorry, I should have clarified the question a bit more. I didn't really mean the entire world, just the world as it is now. I certainly do realize that somewhere, whether it is this planet or another planet, that life will continue in someway. I guess that is the beauty of the life process.

I'm pretty sure that the current world 'order' will have to go and be replaced by something better unless we are to experience total disaster.
It may well be though that things will get a lot worse before they get better.
What we have to hope for I think, is that somehow radical changes can be brought about in a harmonious way.
