has anyone had any issues with graduate school and dreadlocks? i'm a 3rd year undergrad and plan to attend grad school for english literature. i plan on keeping my dreads as long as possible so they can gain some length. i figured that the liberal arts would be one of the most laid-back fields you can decide upon when it comes to appearance, but i'm still worried...

I'm a third year undergrad in English writing!
I wouldn't worry about it. I've seen some grad students who are pretty dirty looking. I've seen dirty looking faculty. I don't see a university saying that you can't pay them to take classes simply because they don't perceive you as "clean". You are probably cleaner than some professors.

And if you're doing your masters work at the same university as your undergrad, you should know enough of the faculty that it wouldn't make a difference - they'd all know you have dreads.

    Don't sweat it.

I go to school in NJ.
    William Paterson University.

I initially went to get into Jazz performance, but the kids are INSANE on their instrument. And they only accept three per instrument per year.

So I switched to English, and I'm ridiculously happy with it. The English department faculty is soo awesome at Willy P

    How about you?
