So i want to start a grow in my place and im gonna use a 1000 Watt HPS light. My roomate says, "Don't do it because if they see a spike in our electric they will call the cops". Has anybody heard of this or happened to them? He's got me all paranoid now to do the grow because im afraid cops will kick down the door, "freeze mutherfucker, don't move!!!". Should I be worried about this?
i dont have any experience on this matter, but i really doubt this would ever happen?? wasted time and effort to investigate a higher energy bill?? doesnt seem likely....
i highly doubt it. a single 1000watter will likely increase your energy bill by about 30$ per month. electric companies almost certainly won't make a stink over that kind of increase (to put it into perspective, installing nice air conditioner can do this). if you all the sudden put in 10 of those things, then yes they might raise an eyebrow or two.
Your roomates are stupid. Take the hair dryer and turn it on for a while 1660watts full , If not 1800W.. lower your other electrical appliances change other bulbs in the house to cfls. Dont use microwaves and Take a course in electrical maintaince. So you can combat their stupidity with a degree..
One 100-watt light bulb on for an hour, is 0.1 kWh (100/1000) One 100-watt light bulb on for ten hours is 1 kWh (1 bulbs x 100W x 10h= 1000Wh = 1 kWh) Ten 100-watt light bulbs on for an hour, is 1 kWh (10 bulbs x 100W x 1h= 1000Wh = 1 kWh) Ten 50-watt light bulbs on for an hour, is 0.5 kWh Ten 100-watt light bulbs on for 1/2 an hour, is 0.5 kWh Running a 3500-watt air conditioner for an hour is 3.5 kWh X 18 X cost KWh. First 500 kilowatts 5.8¢ per kilowatt hour (kWh) Additional kilowatts (May-Oct.) 10¢ per kilowatt hour Additonal kilowatts (Nov.-Apr.) 8.3¢ per kilowatt hour
Thanks for the help guys, my roomate made me feel like shit after i was all excited about my new grow. Hey orison, can you elaborate on your last post? Maybe do the math for me? Im a little tipsy..
(points at orison) listen to the man. His numbers don't lie, and he's been 'hypothetically' growing for quite some time. I however have been more worried about stealth, and have done several grows that have sucked more than 1k of power, and never had to worry about it.
i would be more worried about spending the extra 30 buckarinos. unplug all your small appliances when you aren't using them: coffee pot, toaster, and ESPECIALLY game systems. a playstation can use more electricity in a year than a refrigerator, if you leave it plugged in. if you have a small grow it shouldn't spike too much, and if you save energy elsewhere they'll never know the difference.
First of all, it's not the electric company looking out for that kind of stuff, unless of course there's a *HUGE* change. What usually happens is the popo has to suspect you of growing and then they will use your electric bill as evidence to get a warrant. So unless you're moving pounds, then yes, you can be scared... but if this grow is only for personal, go for it. By the way, for a personal grow, have you looked in to using CFLs?
I would take your housing situation into account. If you're in an apartment, it'd look a lil suspicious. If you're in a house, No one would notice. Like some have said, if it's just one bulb than it's no big whoop. I plan on getting a house while the real estate industry is in a slump so i can grow a couple of plants. I think electricity costs aren't the only thing you should worry about. Smell, space, and other things are a concern as well. You gotta be ninja about it.
I used 2 have a 1000w a 600w for flowering in my moms house + a 400w for veg and i just gradually increased light timmers till they where up 2 there cycles. be progresive dont just plug in a 1000w lights and set it 2 18/6 or 12/12 then youll have a spike. gradually increase you usage then less suspisious. if your in a apt buy cfls or a 400w sodium with conversion bulbs. apt grows are sketchy i wouldnt do it.
They're sketchy if you let them be. Im planning on getting all the necessary requirements so people don't find out.
if the cops why you have been using so much electricity when they are at your door be like dude i have 5 computers running every night and 7 monitors on, go bust a meth house you pussys and shut the door on there faces
