Spewing bigoted nonsense during drug induced rants sure does pay well.

From The Business Sheet: Who says you can't make money in the radio business?

NYT: Striking a deal estimated to be worth $400 million through 2016, the conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh has renewed his contract with Clear Channel Communications and its syndication subsidiary Premiere Radio Networks.

The contract renewal was announced Wednesday by the companies, and the financial details were provided by Mr. Limbaugh in an interview with The New York Times Magazine for an article to be published on Sunday. In the interview, Mr. Limbaugh said the new contract would pay him about $38 million a year for eight years. He also said he would receive a $100 million signing bonus.

The deal, which comes a month shy of the 20th anniversary of “The Rush Limbaugh Show,” reiterates Mr. Limbaugh’s position as the nation’s leading purveyor of political talk radio. His new contract is believed to be the most expensive in radio since 2004, when Sirius Satellite Radio paid Howard Stern $100 million a year for five years. That deal, however, also covered the staff, production and studio costs for Mr. Stern’s show.

Plus, Stern's deal was for desperate satellite radio, not the old-fashioned, terrestrial kind.

That should keep his medicine cabinet filled with more than enough little blues to last him during that time.

If he's got the audience he should get the pay, don't like it then don't listen, if no one listens he doesn't get the pay. same with Stern and the rest.

that about sums up my feelings about it.

I listen to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity every day....They say obama's name about 50000000 times every hour. I bet they have dreams about him. Rush gets owned every day on his show. When he gets owned he just cuts the people off. Hannity is the same way accept he starts giggling like a lil faggot when a "liberal" is gettin in that ass. They both dont really care too much about republicans either.

Its funny how all of a Sudden these clowns are riding McCains dick. They were clowning on the dude about 2 months ago.

Operation Chaos was a failure and so is the so called "Stop the RADICAL Obama Express"

Obama got these white boys SHITTIN their PANTS!

Locked in for 8 years, they must have money to burn. What happens if during that time his numbers drop?

Has his numbers ever dropped? That's why they are comfortable locking him in for 8 years. Same with Stern and his 5 years (i think it was 5 anyway). Good track record.

Yeah like the economy. Track records don't always hold. New speculators always like to look at the numbers, but they seldom look at the really long term trends and cycles. Tech and housing bubbles are a couple great examples.

And he has seen some downturns:

It appears 2006 wasn't a good year for him.

Yeah, lol 2006, but what has been his 20 odd year average? Overall increasing numbers, correct? Why would they not lock him in? The stock market is not a good analogy, a better one would be sports. Yes the draft pick could get into a car accident before he even hits the field, and yes they would be out the signing bonus they gave him, thats not going to stop the teams from using every tool at their disposal to lock in a good player for an extended period of time. even with a bad year or two the overall average tells them it's a good pick. it would make little sense for them not to renew Limbaugh's contract for the same reasons.

Also, you might want to read the entire article you link to:

Yeah I am little tired of seeing celebrity being seen as a a negotiable commodity. I like to deal with gold and silver. It has a longer lifespan. Dot com bubble, housing bubble, what next a celebrity bubble. I am not willing to put my money into Limbaugh anymore than I want money spent on James Carville.

The next bubble is the goverment bubbble, too may undertakings, underwriting of too many obligations. Its too much.
War, corporate welfare, goverment departments, education.
Social Security will crash. Medicare, it will all go down due to the vanity of thinking goverment can do it all.
