Yay, more people from Scotland I fancy camping in an old bothy away in the hills this summer, somewhere away up Glen Coe or something. Last summer a few of us got bothered by some Forrestry Commission folks while camping in the woods, and if they bother you simply say you have read the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and suggest they do they same. Its now possible to camp anywhere in Scotland as long as you are seen to be acting responsibly e.g. no big fires and no littering.
I hitch hiked around Scotland about 10 years ago. Everyone told me the old castes were public property and I could camp out in them so I wandered around and camped out in old caste ruins. It was really cool..
I spent a year in Scotland and COMPLETELY fell in love with the place. I often regret having left. I was mostly in Perthshire, but traveled quite a bit, and spent a couple months on the Isle of Skye.
scottish pride can bend metal the northwest is my fave up here, i go out and do volunteer work over there in th highlands at a natural heritage doing conservation work and manual labour like shifting timber etc. tis really good. you guys should consider it! check out snh.co.uk
Scotland is great! Was there a few years ago, only really got to see the Glasgow and Edinburgh areas though. Was supposed to get up to Inverness and the Highlands, but that fell through. Are there sufficient locations to camp and get supplies were one to attempt backpacking across Scotland?
locations to camp, sure.more on the west coast usually. and supplies are fairly easy to get. its a beautiful country with great areas of land but theyre not completely desolate lol. you will find small towns and villages within a days walk all over the place =] give me a shout if your planning a hike
Indeed, might be a few years before I get round that way again sadly Didja ever see the Man vs Wild Scotland episode?
