Do they cause anyone else a tremendous amount of itching?...

My dreads were backcombed, but I've let them do their own thing and a few are congo'ing, but my heads never been so itchy!

Could it be the congos causing the itching, as my head never used to itch this much. It's not lice, my mums had a good rummage around and saw nothing :)

lol yeah, a congo is where 2 dreads combine into 1 bigger one.

if the congo is super massive, it might prevent you from being able to get at the scalp, and prevent water from getting there if it is really tight. but I don't think a congo would cause the actual itching, unless it is really pulling on the scalp or something.

how long have you had your locks? it seems itching is just part of the process...your scalp getting used to having dreads. I am experiencing it a little bit right now too. but many people says it goes away eventually.

I have 2 congos, the one is formed by 5 dreads and the other by just two. I had some itching, but i dont think its caused by the forming congos.

My dreads are 1.5years old. Had itchies at the very beginning, but they're randomly coming back.

Might be the weather, even though its supposedly summer..

Washed them this morn, and they feel slightly better. Might make up some peppermint and teatree water spray, that tends to help a little.

    Thanks :)

oh, scatteredleaves- I've thought about stopping using soap. But I get dandruff and once it gets itchy, I can't help but wash it. Although they reckon after a few months your scalp adjusts, right?

I have stopped using soap for a while now, and just use baking soda every once in a while. I like it much better.

I use the deep cleanse concotion every month. It's the best thing I've ever been told about for my dreads.

I use dreadfx shampoo. I used to use the knottyboy shampoo, but found that with as with any shampoo, if you solely use one for prolonged periods of time, your hair because almost complacent with it. Like, it gets used to it.

The dreadfx stuff is awesome for getting rid of dandruff too.

actually, my scalp didnt have to adjust, as soon as i started washing with just water, it didnt itch at all and my dandruff was better. i think my itching and dandruff was just caused by soap. no matter how well i rinsed, it left residue. after a couple of just water rinses, my scalp felt way cleaner and more comfortable. and i dont get that dirty hair smell so much either, it used to be like after two days my hair would smell a bit, now it takes almost two weeks.

kindaa why i am not a fan of huge congos or too thick dreads, its hard to get under em to the scalp to clean em really good

im letting alotta mine congo now though just to try reducing the sheer nimber of dreads and hopefully reduce the number of times a day i get tangled in things
but i definately dont wanna allow any to get too thick so i cant easily get the scalp clean
