Bush just lifted the executive ban on drilling off the coasts. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/14/AR2008071401049.html Jon Stewart was speaking about this. Analyzing McCain's position supporting this in regards to his statement we have an addiction to oil. "So you're answer to this is 'I have a cocaine problem... I need more cocaine.'" Personally I don't have a problem drilling more as long as theres a commitment to looking for more energy. Which is not what our policy is focused on at this point. It's simply focused on more oil. I'm going to contend that $6 gas is a good thing.
high gas prices will be good in the long run if people get there act together and get other alternatives rolling around and into production for the masses
half of the worlds oil has been used...the other half is harder to get to with demand rising everyday..I imagine without some drastic alternative, gas will be $20 a gallon eventually.
It'll happen. And $6 gas is the only thing that'll make it start. It'll also prevent outsourcing. It won't be worth it anymore with $6 gas, and it will bring a lot of jobs back home. Reforming our national energy infrastructure is a half a century process.
How long will oil last? What will happen when oil is all gone, its going to run out someday, I presume. Where is my bicycle!
There are plenty of alternative to drilling. Like making oil. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article4133668.ece Theres ethanol, and the only reason that isn't working now is because the corn industry owns us. I suggest PEM cells. http://physics.nist.gov/MajResFac/NIF/pemFuelCells.html
We can make oil on a large scale. We'll never be 'out' of oil. It will simply cost more, unless we want to invest heavily on making it on a large scale. Hopefully it is used less in the future and we invest in better alternatives.
seriously gas in the states was so low for so long, much lower than THE REST OF THE WORLD it was coming for a long time. maybe it will make people see that buying things they need is more important than buying stupid shit they want to use to impress other people....
I'm going to contend that you watch too much wolfe blitzer. Six dollar gas, a good thing? C'mon man. Seriously? Anybody who thinks that making the AVERAGE person pay a minimum of $72 for a tank of gas that will, on average, go 240 miles, is out of their mind. Between grocery shopping, working, and kids requirements, the average family will be at a complete loss. Stating things like, "energy reform is a decade long process" makes it even dumber to think the price is justified. And $40k hybrid cars? With todays economy? I'll be buying a moped and a geo metro.
Huh? No. It simply won't increase supply enough to keep up with demand and speculation. It might in a decade have around a $.40 effect on a gallon of gas. The price of gas will be higher than it is today in a decade. It'll be a small drop in a large pool
the shake up is necessary to weed out the inefficient and provide incentives for people to become as profitable as possible.
I wasn't ready for gas to hit $2, but I managed I wasn't ready for gas to hit $3, but I managed I wasn't ready for gas to hit $4, but I managed See where this is heading?
