So its the 20th aniversary of the Bob and friends party fun event which raised a lot of money. Which is always nice. I was born on the year it happened so I can't remember much of it as I hadn't really got to grips with using my arms and legs yet. Was was it like, any memories? huh?
I would've been 8 ... I think I suspected even then that these were a group of the least cool musicians the world had ever seen... Never mind fundraising for some peckish foreigners, a well placed bomb in Wembley Stadium could've made the world so much better... a real missed opportunity. Where's the IRA when you need them? Eh?
I was 7... i think i just remember the re runs, Wham was in it right? Didnt they re do it in the 90's with Kylie in it?
I was 16 in 1985... we had a big Live Aid party round a friend's house... think there was about a dozen of us... had a load of booze and some nice nibbles and had an incredible time... had to stagger home after the Wembly concert to see the one in the USA and then realised how shit it was going to be so fell asleep... Overriding memories... the genius of starting with Status Quo... dear uncle Bob swearing on live tv... the CNN news coverage that was edited in with The Cars' song "Drive" (and the tears that followed it)... the sound fucking up during The Boomtown Rats and then again during Paul McCartney... Bono's epic mullet... Queen just being epic... Bowie's head looking too large for his body (might have been too much beer at that point)... all sorts of stuff... Fly...
U2 - Playing "Bad" - in fact its about my only memory of Live Aid, I was 9 at the time and playing with Lego or something... If you, twist and, turn away.... Pure class...
I was sixteen. I remember Queen, they just rocked! Pure class! And splitting up with my girlfriend that day.....
