Well Im 16 and Im going to be a senior this year. I will be 17 in october. 1. Well I was thinking of taking a community college in canada. That means moving out, (18years old though, right?) from california, and moving in with a roommate and getting a job to pay for rent, getting loans and grants to pay for all expenses as well, traveling, college. I want to move out from cali (and parents!) to canada, where Ideally is where I want to live in the future. Ive been looking at colleges, but not sure which one is for me. -Friendly, Hippy community college -Naturistic like campus (trees, grass, ya know) -I dont know what to major in 2. Stay here in cali and go to a community college here, at 17. But I cant stand living with my parents any longer, no parties, no time for me, im ready to leave, and dont you dare tell me otherwise, should I move into an apatement or something? (if you didnt know, im in cali, expenses are high) if you are wise and know about graduating from a college, majors, and dealing with traveling as well, please tell me. Im only 16, but Im pretty unsure what to do, kinda just want a good idea where im heading, you know? advice welcome. :cheers2:
16 and a senior? Crazy...I'm seventeen and I'll be turning 18 during my senior year. Seems you're a bit ahead of me, lucky. Yeah leaving the country wouldn't be cheap...But I guess where you live wouldn't be too cheap either, tough choice. The only thing I can suggest relates to housing, I think you will have to make your own choice of country and school(though, obviously, you should come to Canada). You'll need to find somewhere where you're definitely sharing an apartment with prolly anywhere from 1 -3 other people depending on cost and what they are doing with their lives and whatnot.
I think I was supposed to be a junior, I dont know, Im not even all that smart. chucklechuckle Yeah I want to go to Canada, for sure. Yeah, I would need an apartment for the time being, and hopefully some chill people, haha Straight out, deal with the smell of pot, nudity, and psychedelic music and deep insight to the uncounciousness on a daily basis.
My advice would be to research, figure out your living expenses will be, how to move to Canada, etc. And network, you will be just as miserable if you hate your roommate (s). Don't worry about your major, you have to finish your basics before that really matters, so you have at least a year and a half. Taking classes will help you figure that out. I wouldn't totally rule out living on campus either though, I did it and I quite liked it.
Damn, I was actually just about to suggest that she figure out what she's going to do, find the best school for it and go from there. That way, it's easy to plan out what city you'll be in, how much the cost of living is there and how to go about finding roommates and whatnot. Figuring out where you'll be going will determine a lot.
Cool thanks, well, like I said Ill be seventeen when I graduate. Do you have to be a certain age to move out to go to college, I think its 18. Im gonna have to research how to get from the US to Canada..? Im not sure how that works out, I will probably look for a roommate close to the college Im hoping for. I want to make it as affordable as possible and if I need loans , it wont make it my life mission to pay them back, ye know. I was thinking about alot of stuff like sociology, pychology, astronomy, but I know those arent really the jobs to get me a good paying career, just more to feed my head. I dont know what to major in that would suit my lifestyle. So Ill have to think on it. And probably start with the basics like you said Artist. I would live on the campus but that goes all back to finances. Thanks drew, Im kinda looking for campuses that suit my taste, more artistic/life searching so far.
The reason I said what I did is you wouldn't want to go to specific college for whatever reason, based on what you think you want to do. The more you get into it, the more you learn and find your place, etc. At least this was the case for me.
Yeah, Im not looking for a special college or a certain one subject college, I was planning on a career college in Canada. My dad keeps on telling me to find out what I like and what I want to do I know what I like Im not sure of all the things you can learn in college I dont know what to do. But I know I want to move out of here and start living my own life, so, Im just going to look up a nice looking, community college and just start with the basics and move up from there. Im gonna try and figure out how to move to canada, move in with a roommate/ or maybe live on campus ($$) Probably try and get me a job you know. I might just look up a roomate on here
My older brother found some roommates in Australia by using craig's list. Now he's bunking with a bunch of greenpeace activists. So yeah, maybe try craig's list.
i didn't read this whole thread... but... why don't you do what normal people do and apply to a college, do your best in school (those two should be reversed, too lazy to backspace, but apparently not lazy enough to add this parenthetical...) and get accepted then go and get shipped off to that college which means, being away from the 'rents even though i never did, living in the dorms ain't that bad from what i hear, in fact, it's what i wish i did either way, seems your main goal, imo, is to get away from your parents and this just seems like a logical way to do that, and the simplest
