my current guitar sucks, its an aria stg 006. it was an idea that i didnt wnt to spend much, just buy a noob guitar and get good, then get some really good one for a decent amout of cash. im not quete really good yet, but i hate the sound of it, seriusly, my acoustic is cheap as fuck too, and im looking for a much better sound. my friend is thinking about getting an epiphone (dont know how it will work out for him). i mean i would get a fender strat right now, but a faded SG has been my childish dream since i began playing. now im thinking of getting one in the near future. im wondering if any experience or advice would be available here... i have crappy 12 gauge amp atm, its ok - has a built in distortion and reverb (very faint) effects, but i think they suck compared to ones say a marshall pedal can provide. so im also considering getting some decent effects. thats the next question, would i be better off buying say 3 pedals for 150 quid, or a multi effect board for almost same ammount. im assuming the fact that the board has like 10 effects means they will all lack severe quality, but im just thinking.
yah sgs are pretty cool. one of my guitars is a strat and id prefer a sg over it but o well. my friends bro has a menace and u dont even have to be good at guitar to make it sound amazing. and also i got 3 pedals (distortion, flanger, and chorus. i technically have 4 pedals but i broke my first distortion) i think it was like 40$ each but i kinda regret not getting a multi effects board but i couldnt find one that suited me. looking back i wish i hadn't gotten either cause i have worn the fuck out of my amp and i need a new one bad so in the long run i probably should have just saved my money up and got a decent amp.
I have an early 70's copy of a gibson sg, even though its a fake, its age almost makes it antique lol. ITs actualy got a pretty nice sound and the biggest pick ups evar. You will enjoy playing much more once you have a decent instrument. Keep playing.
now that you practiced to get good on a guitar that wasn't the greatest, it will be nice to play on a good guitar. gibson sg's are badass.. i like them alot.
Get an epiphone sg, I got one as my first guitar. It sounds amazing and doesnt cost as much as the Gibson model. Epiphone is made by Gibson so you know your getting a quality guitar. You should get a small marshall amp if your just playing for yourself, a 15 or 30 watt would be good I suppose. Just don't by a Gibson SG and play it on a shitty amp, it just won't be fun. Get a Marshall or Mesa or something like that. As far as effects go I'd get a digital effects pedal, they have hundreds of effects built right into them. This is what I use and man, it sounds fucking amazing.http://www.savinglots.com/pimages/GFX5.jpg But if it's your first pedal you might not need all of the effects, that one I posted was only $299.99 but if theres many other cheaper pedals that still sound great. Theres also more expensive ones, Im actually saving up for a new one to go with my other guitar thats at my friends house.
If your not totally set on the SG check out this place: http://www.rondomusic.com/electricguitar.html any of their Agile brand guitars are pretty damn nice at a great price. I have an Agile AL-3000 and I love it. Its a les paul copy but everyone who has played it can't believe how good it sounds for being a sub $400 guitar. Here's a couple shots of mine when I got it to show that it is a legit quality instrument.
I own a fat strat texas special and love it to death, but I also want an SG in my arsenal. I personally think the SG is the only Gibson worth drooling over.
DUDE!!! listen up! If u want better sound id suggest u get a better amp before buying a better guitar!! if u buy a nice guitar and shitty amp its still gonna suck!!!! the amp produces most of the kick ass sound. For example i have a shitty Warlock that i hate with a passion (got it for christmas didnt ask for it) Later I bought a 500 dollar Marshall (250 watt) and it makes amazing sound!!!! So before buying a kick ass guitar id highly suggest u buy a better amp!! Johnny Tsunami can back me up!! (forum user)
I can and will back you up tommy, I would say get a decent amp first because 80% of your sound comes from the amp and the pedals you use, then then the remaining 20% is a combination of your guitar and it's pickups. That's why all the great guitarists switch their guitars around sometimes, but NEVER switch their amps around. The amp gives it the base sound that you're looking for, then the guitar gives it the extra personality! If you're a beginner though, I would suggest to get a POD xT (or X3, it's the new pedal Line 6 came out with). Hell even if you're not a beginner I reccomend the POD, it covers such a huge scale of tones and it's only about 400 bucks! But if you're set on getting a new guitar, I can't really sway your decision, I have a Suhr custom standard, and it's the best! here's some videos of Guthrie Govan (greatest guitarist ever) playing his Suhr, his tone is ridiculous and his skills are unrivaled! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsCKpRzfMzU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbSVbXfTnOM Happy playing dude!
:cheers2:thats all... Im not johnny, but correct. The amps and effects today play the guitar for you. I have a Rolands GR1 synth. Makes the guitar sound like any instrument you want.. and many other effect I have But I play mostly a Strat/ or a jackson. Little bit costly.
well if your gunna play metal ide go Schecter. thats what im going to be getting the first of next month. i had a fender Mexican strat but i didn't like the sound. however one of my teachers has a american strat and that thing practically has a life of its own...
