    Well I guess it all depends on who's doing the writing. HP Lovecraft was not really known for his bare bones writing skills more so just for his raw imagination, Yet has had many writers with argueably more skill continue on with his chracters and themes he created. And as for if anyones done it, Yea I wrote short story based on Stephen Kings Dark Tower universe... Its soooo terriable and im no writer but it was fun to do! :p Ill paste a link to it here if your interested
