Total bullshit. Just goes along with all the other "conspiracy theorists are mentally ill" mumbo-jumbo. Somehow only opinions contradictory to the officially-sanctioned ones are cause for concern about your mental state. It's not too exciting or self-important to believe that the whole of the Arab world wants us all dead -- that's just plain facts. But to believe that the government perpetrated something like 9/11 is a fantasy. You're just trying to inject some excitement into your life. Bullshit.

The main thrust of it all is to simply state (though not in so many words) that anyone who believes in a "conspiracy theory" (anything contradicting what is officially true), believes this not because they thought about it, researched it and came to this conclusion, but simply because they're playing a mental trick on themselves. It completely invalidates people's legitimately-held opinions.

 

Remember the first line: I've got a theory - an untested, unprovable theory.

The whole Arab world does not want us dead.
Infact only this week many states in the Arab world have been speaking with the "western" world. If you believe some, it is a monumental time as as far as reaching a peace agreement is concerned.
Our reputation is in splinters, but that is with a minority of people, who don't want peace. You will never win them around.

Neither does it say anything about being mentally ill.
I do think that some of the "theorists" do have too much of an active imagination, and balance there dull lives with more entertaining notions.

I think one of the things conspiracy theorists like about their theories is that it makes them feel like they are part of an elite, a small group of people who are smarter than the rest. This probably helps offset the reality of their lives, where they aren't top of the class, they aren't racing ahead in successful career, they aren't really special in any way, and in fact they don't really see much hope of any of that changing. Its empowering to believe all that, even if it is just a form of escapism.

Of course I'm not referring to anyone here. Yet plenty will take offense - especially the people who constantly refer to everyone but their conspiracy buddies as brainwashed sheeple.

Exactly. It's no secret that Hiptastic, Pepik, Pointbreak, and possibly others before that, are the same person. He doesn't even try to hide it. Yet Skip ignores this, eventually bans him, then lets him come back under a different name. Why no IP ban?

I make no secret of the fact that I've gone under other names. But my identity is not common knowledge. If Skip found out who I was, he'd IP ban me for sure. And I haven't circulated any PMs about Skip. I emailed some info to people who asked for it.

This is typical. For one thing, how did I ever make an ally of xexon? Secondly, from what I've seen, he has nothing against Jews, nor any sympathies for the Nazis. This is the kind of stuff that makes me say you're an agent. Either that or a moron.

But I notice you still avoided the question -- why does Skip let you keep coming back under different names, never IP banning you? He lets you get away with many times more than others get banned for, despite ostensibly disagreeing with you in general outlook (cause for outright banning if you don't back down, which you never do). And when you finally go too far and he has to ban you, you come right back again, everyone knows it, and he does nothing.

I haven't seen enough of xexon's arguments to know if I'd consider him an anti-Semite or not, but I don't consider Rat to be one. As is always stated, Zionism and Judaism are two different things. I have never seen any hostility towards Jewish people in any of Rat's posts (or xexon's, for that matter, but I haven't read that many).

Personally, I think conspiracy theorists just don't know enough about a lot of things so decide to cling to a set theories. Yes, these people may have a working brain in their heads, but clearly don't know the intricacies of the world.
If anything they said was in anyway original then maybe I would not think this, but none of it is.

If he knew who I was, or read any of these posts, I would almost certainly be banned. Yet everyone knows who you are, so he must, and he must read your posts all the time in the politics forum, yet as I said, he lets you get away with ten times more than anyone else. Why?
