any other reggae fans in here? ive been getting in it alot lately while im blazed. discuss some bands
i dig it when i feel like uber-chillin' bob marley is always a good friend on a long road i dig me some dub every now and then, even if i am a closet-dancer
one of the bartenders at work strictly plays reggae and blues music on the stereo in the restaurant.. we get Digital Music Xpress... the customers dig it..
Yup, reggae head here- prefer my dub but still play a lot of reggae... Big Youth, Gregory Isaacs, U-Roy, Lee Scratch Perry, Max Romeo, Linton Kwesi Johnson are some of my favourites...
dub is the shit, you can wake me up for dub anytime, lee scratch perry, king tubby, jah shaka. i love it, its hypnotizing
i cant understand a word on most reggae tracks, like i understand 'ol 'erb, and ghanja, and ganstah and the rest is a mystery to me
Mikey Drrreaad! Dub's also great sometimes, but I'm very selective on reggae and dub stuff, cause it's generally pretty repetitive stuff. Mikey Dread - World war III and Beyond world war III are 2 of my favourite reggae albums. I also love Black Uhuru in dub very much I like the songs with that nonsense kind of vocalsounds of Eek-a-mouse as well when I'm baked. Excellent chill stuff!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzZ6GsSpsUQ&feature=related Would you consider this reggae? I would, but I'm interested in hearing other people's opinion. (The Clash- Revolution Rock)
Yeah, and if that really is The Clash then I would say that Sublime was influenced by that or something like it. Very cool.
ya man the life aquatic is one of my favorite films, and wes anderson is one of the few promising film directors of our time. here's another pseudo- reggae song by the clash off the same album. rudie can't fail! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tU1stt0okdM
Bro, bro, bro, bro.....I love ragga. Hands down my favorite genre of music. Roots rock more specifically. Retro ragga is the best, check out: The Wailers (Obviously)- please keep in mind that Peter Tosh wrote most of their songs, and actually taught Marley how to play the guitar. I should not be "Bob Marley and the Wailers" it should just be "The Wailers" Wailing Souls-A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Horace Andy Augustus Pablo- Some of the best dub you'll ever hear The Skatalites Gentleman The Gladiators The Heptones Ini Kamoze Inner Circle The Itals Jimmy Cliff King Tubby- Some more good dub Lee "scratch" Perry The Meditations The Mighty Diamonds Peter Tosh (solo career) Steel Pulse Third World Toots and the Maytals Yellowman Black Uhuru Culture Half Pint Buju Banton Eek-a-mouse And that's really only a few of the good artists/bands of the best days of Ragga. Some newer artists/bands that are good are: John Browns Body Groundation Ziggy Marley (Better than Damian and Seteven IMO, as they are much more "newage") Easy Star All-stars Julian Marley Kymani Marley Long Beach Dub All-stars -many of the old sublime members Michael Franti and Spearhead Midnite (sorta older ragga, but still performing) Mishka Mysitc Roots Ooklah The Moc - amazing Hawaiian ragga Rebelution Tribal Seeds Seed Sizzla (fairly old) Soldiers of Jah Army (SOJA) Anyways, there's LOTS more those are just some of my personal favorites that I HIGHLY recommend checking out if you enjoy some quality ragga. It makes me happy to know others are enjoying the good vibes produces by Ragga and if I can help in terms of recommendations or getting you any please let me know. One love
Dood, great choices. Max Romeo- Babylons burning is a classic. And who can ever forget Gregory Isaacs "night nurse"....great tribute to MJ
