I just completed a day surgury on my hydrocele (essentially a cyst in the testicle) that was removed through an incision just below the abdomen.

because of the pain caused by this incision, as well as testicular swelling (hope this doesnt offend anyone), I was given a prescription of Tylenol-2 (15mg codeine).

However, due to the liver damage using this medication for a week or so may cause, i would like a more "natural" painkiller.

my question is: does anyone have experience regarding whether cannabis is more/less effective at relieveing post-operative pain? It is a relatively low discomfort when sitting/lying down, but any movement puts unsettling amounts of discomfort upon the region.

hopefully the answers given will help provide insight to others with similar concerns.

PS: because my weed stash is at another address, i want an essentially definite answer before i go into the trouble of obtaining it to my current location, where i am essemtially bed-ridden

I've never smoked after surgery but I think it would just amplify the discomfort. Pot seems to do that to me, even without having something that is already discomforting . I think it would definately help with the pain though.

God damn, if I had surgery on my nuts I would have demanded something better than Tylenol 2.

But as far as using that for a week, it isn't going to hurt your liver in those doses. I'd think it would probably take 30-60mg of codeine for pain relief though..you could probably get by with 30mg and smoking..if anything it will enhance the codeine so you don't have to take as much.

lol. truth is, the pain isnt too bad, but at the same time, the tylenols do not appear to make a huge difference in it.

i figure tonight i may try to self-medicate with some sativa i have (i realize indica would be best, but i have none)

indica would be better for pain. bro, you should still try 2 get some meds! if the pain isnt that bad, shit make it up! if you dont need em sell em.

but the longer you take the less chance you got, remember.

    Kilo is right.
Tylenol#4 or Vicodin should have been scripted.
Cannabis for me makes me more sensitive to pain
and I enjoy it for relaxation, music, chilling but not pain.
Fortunately I can drink so shots of tequila about 4
help. Funny thing..when I told that to the doc when they gave me motrin
for my knee injury they were very quick to prescribe Vicodin.
    Tylenol#2 is worthless.#3 is tolerable #4 works.

Yeah, I'd definitely call him and tell him it's not working. Hell my doctor prescribes Percocet for post-operative pain and I know he's not the only one, but at the least I've always known them to give Vikes. You'd probably get better pain relief from a couple of Motrin vs. #2.

might try that. but i found some t3's from a surgery last year.

as for the cannabis, i hit it first thing this morning and found it gave a slight pain relief, or at least distraction. however, i coughed twice and that was incredibly painfull on the stitches
