Acceptable to whom? Some religions are a lot more tolerant than others. Buddhists and Hindus would find it quite acceptable. Conservative Christians and Muslims would not, because they believe it's "Our way or the highway" (to hell). Generally speaking, religions of the Abrahamic tradition, incluiding Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, are exclusive of other beliefs, because they think theirs is the right one. But if you want to attend their religious services and others besides, what's stopping you? I'd just keep your attendance at the other services quiet, if you don't want to be hassled by the "True Believers".

You could do the same with the teachings of Buddha. I mean come on, 4 noble truths and the eight-fold path shouldn't be hard to fit in a 3x5 card. All the rest including the 20,000 pages are just commentary, I think.

Anyway, I do think that a religion's worth shouldn't be measured in by the thickness of its book(s).

haha it's quite true. you really can fit the cliffs notes of buddhism on a 3x5 card. i've done it before for world studies class in highschool. :D

i didn't take it in a bad way,i know muslims get a bad rap over here, but i am one of the few that doesn't buy into everything i hear. it's just whenever i bring up religion, someone, regardless of the religion they practice, always has to be like, "come to church with me" or "have you ever considered blah blah blah?" don't get me wrong, i'm always up for suggestions, just occasionally people get really pushy. it gets old after 20 years and counting...

    relayer:

there is a rabbi on youtube that does a weekly torah lesson video, past that i haven't been able to get my hands on any religious texts via that internet or any other source. and i am sure as hell not going to buy all of the ones i am interested in. that'd be a lot of money... i wish all religions were like christianity in the sense that you don't have to do anything but look like you need some jesus to be handed your free mini copy of the bible :D

any helpful links to the books of judaism, hinduism, buddhism, and muhammad(not the whole qur'an) ?

I'm not sure if they'll have links to buddhism books but here: http://www.e-sangha.com

Also: sometimes I too wish the other religions would hand free copies of their bibles (or whatever they call their texts). Now I'm trying to imagine some robed guy ringing my doorbell and booming, "HAVE YOU ACCEPTED BUDDHA YET!?" :D

Stonie, Ima apologize too (sorry for the delay, I've been gone for awhile). You were never actually too pushy, and I feel bad because of the bad rep Muslims have in America right now. When you saiad "if you read everything about islam you will find the one if you seek the truth." You're right, you aren't trying to convert her, I guess it just shows yuo have strong faith in your religion, and well...good for you :)

but i still find it frustrating that people can critiscize other religions, its a huge pet peeve of mine. For example what if praying to a cow or rat is praying to a higher diety, one that not everyone can recognize?

And further, some people try to do religious things to fill up their empty lives. So here is my conundrum, people like me, I either get criticized for not being religious enough or wasting energy seeking and understanding my beliefs. I have studied various religions man, and I don't agree with any of them word by word. Like you said, Islam is like a law, and while not all religions are that strict, I feel no need to be conformed by boundaries and titles. Each religion tends to have some vaulable philosphies, so I don't think I am wasting my time trying to fill the void of my empty life. Actually, I am discovering, learning, and growing, enhancing both my everday and spiritual lives.

but seriously, it's all about the love man
