Yeah, I'm not looking to switch or anything... Just curious. Didn't sound too appetizing to me, but that's what that Samantha chick said when she went to Italy, sooo...

I may try it, just for kicks. It's summer. I'm bored. Stupidity ensues.:p;)

I wouldn't listen to samantha brown... shes quite the retard i believe. She goes to some cool places, but as soon as i hear her talking about what to do in those places i change the channel. Shes just so dumb!

I prefer anthony bordain... atleast hes almost sane.

Dude, I tried the tea tree Dr. Bronner's the other day and my mouth is just now recovering! My teeth were indeed much cleaner, but it burned the inside of my mouth! I actually had raw patches on my gums and the insides of my cheeks. I don't know if it is like this with all of them, but I don't know if I'm brave enough to find out. The pain was excruciating for the rest of the day and I had to take aspirin and an oral analgesic just to get through the first few hours.

    Looks like I'm allergic.

OUCH!!! sounds like your mouth did not like dr.b!!!
do you mind if i ask which one it was? i have used the dr. bronner's peppermint bar soap on my teeth before, but none of the others

i have been using tooth soap for years now, but not just straight castile. actually, i get my tooth soap from soap makers & it's basically one of their mint/sea salt bars that has been shredded. you just take one shred & place it on your brush (or your tooth), wet your toothbrush & scrub away!
the idea is that most commercial toothpastes (even the natural ones from the health food store) contain glycerine. even if the glycerine is all natural & coconut derived, it supposedly leaves a coating on your teeth & this coating can prevent your teeth from absorbing minerals....
i am using the soap bc it's cheap, easy, & all natural
the one drawback that i've noticed is that my teeth seem to stain easier, so now i use baking soda & sea salt at least once a week too

I'm curious, Josai, what company do you buy from? I got a jar of tooth soap from a soap making company, and it became rancid within a month. I paid about $20.00 for a 4 oz. jar that I didn't even use 1/4 of the product from. I like the idea of tooth soap, but I'm leery of spending that kind of money on something that just won't last very long...thanks!

I've never actually used Dr. Bronner on my teeth, but after your description, Firefly, I don't think I will! Sounds pretty awful to me...

    hey there Sus!

i purchased my tooth soap from A Wild Soapbar which is mother/son soapmaking company in austin, tx. they grow a lot of the things they use in their soap. actually, when i purchased it, i was managing a local boutique & i ordered it wholesale ;)
looks like it is $18 a jar, but it should last you quite awhile!
    here's a link:

my mom actually uses just plain old soap, as long as it is all natural.

    plain castille soap, yes.

I wouldn't use any with additives, though. even some of the mildest essential oils can burn the very sensitive tissues of the mouth. The rule of thumb is if you wouldn't use it on the most sensitive parts of your genitals (especially for you girls) then you don't really want to use it in your mouth, as the tissues are basically the same sensitivity and absorptivity.

    good point!!!!

I've had that sensitive area experience with peppermint dr.bronner's....
let's just say it was much more than iNviGoRaTiNg!!!!
    a little goes a L O N G way ;)

i remember once reading a hillarious story in an herbal book, where the practicing herbalist was brewing a nice herbal bath for her ill husband & accidentally grabbed the peppermint essential oil (instead of the eucalyptus).
in her words, she didn't realize her mistake until "the innocent let out a yell" that she said to this day she will never forget!!!

hahaha....i think it was in rosemary gladstar's family herbal but i have all of her books, so it could be another one????
yeah, they later ended up divorced, & she made a joke about it being bc of the peppermint bath!!!
that is the lot of an herbalist's partner...always a guinea pig!
