i have been looking for the LD of morphine for a while now... i remember seeing it somewhere, but am now forgetful. any help would be great
I don't know what the average lethal dose for Morphine is and I reallt can't answer your question with a number or average but what I can tell you is from ehat I have seen is there is really no lethal dose with opiates forsay every person is different.so many dam factors come into play on what makes a opiate deadly and causes a OD to happen from tolerance, health, dose level, lack of sleep, potency of the drug, and a whole shit load more, The biggest factor that leads to OD's being from what I have seen over the years that makes opiates deadly is mixing them with other drugs especially other downers like Alchool,Benzos and sedatives you are just asking to OD when doing that its the #1 no no when fucking with opiates. example being go look at any Herion or OC overdose about 75% of the time the person who OD was also using another drug at the time or had another substance in there system. Shit I have ODed myself 3 times and every time I was mixing another drug or drugs with the Herion. The more I think of it almost all the od's and DEaths I have seen and known about from Herion and Painkillers the person was using another drug with the opiates 9/10 !!!!
Piggybacking on a little of what Shocbomb said, I agree with the statement about the deadly combination that arises once Benzo's (in particular Xanax) and Alcohol are thrown in the mix with Opiates. One is truly playing with death with that combo, and I DO NOT recommend anyone trying that. I am NOT an expert or anything, just a chronic pain patient that has been in pain management for 7 years now and have been on many numerous pain meds (now it is just Percocet 10/325 and Roxicodone 30mg every month), but from having conducted my OWN PERSONAL RESEARCH on Wikipedia, Erowid (Gawd bless that site for existing), and Poppies.org just to name a few....Opiates in general, well at least the semi-synthetic and synthetic ones, have a VERY GOOD safety margin. Meaning that BY THEMSELVES taken alone, they have a very good safety profile and one generally does not have a huge risk of death due to OD. However, when it comes to other Opiates...the more natural ones (including Heroin), that is another story. Especially MORPHINE. This will forever standout in my mind "The line between therapeutic and death dosages with Morphine are VERY FINE and not too far off from each other". MST tabs (Morphine Sulphate immediate release pills) come between 10mg and 60mg. Honestly, I would...at least for the first time out...stay within those two ranges and tritate up from there to see how you respond. Obviously for the Opiate naive you would want to begin at the lower end and work your way up from there, whereas someone whom is pretty Opiate tolerant (like me), you should be able to get by with a 40mg or higher (up to 60mg) and do just fine. But I stick to my good old Oxy as that is what I know best. I just ALWAYS exercise extreme caution when I take my 1mg Xanax with it. I NEVER exceed 1mg Xanax (first time I got Xanax script I underestimated the power of the two (Xanax and Oxy) combined...and am probably damn lucky it didn't cost me my life as BAM!! I was OUT! I began nodding off into outer space, and then passed the fuck out. My wife tried waking me three different times, but I was OUT LIKE A LIGHT. I now have a newfound respect for those two, and luckily I knew better than to mix alcohol with the two. Central Nervous System depressants should be exercised with extreme caution, and be given the respect they deserve. I wish NO ONE on here to ever become just another statistic to what could have been a preventable OD. Be safe everyone
This is the lethal dose (LD) of the drug in whatever animal has been tested. The "50" indicates that this is the amount of the drug that caused half of the animals to die. The values given are mass of the drug per mass of the animal. So an LD50 of 100 mg/kg would mean for 100 mg of the drug for every kg the animal. LD50 is a good indication of how toxic a drug is, but note how much it changes from one species to another. There is a three-fold difference in the LD of heroin for mice versus monkeys. LD50 mice 226-318 mg/kg (IV)
as many other people have said, the lethal dose for most opiates varries due to the tolerance levels of different people. For example, iv seen my one friend snort over 200mg of oxy within an hour, just to get a "moderate" high. that amount would easily kill someone who hasnt tried any opiates
