hello to all the thick mamas out there. just getting into this for the first time and thought i'd get some opinions. looking at all the awesome skirts i've seen... i'm wondering if there are particular styles a thick sister like me should stay away from and ones that would look good. i'm roughly a size 20-24 depending on who's making it and what it is. i really like tiered style skirts and think they look good. but i'm not so sure about ones that, say, are all patchwork. one style i like is i guess what is called a strip skirt? one variation being two 3"-8" wide strips in front and two in the back. the rest of the skirt would be one solid color. another variation would be alternating strips of prints and solids or all prints, like calicos and such. i like my skirts to have a good spin, nice and flowy. any feedback would be great. what works for you? pics would rock if you have any of something you like and/or have made or gotten for yourself. thanks in advance!! -Wicked
Whatever you feel best in, you probably look best in. That's all I can tell you. I don't know your body type, build or height so it's difficult to determine which styles might suit you best. I will say, however that I am short and chubby with wide hips and I find that the tiered ones look best on me. The bottom sort of balances my hips out. Oh, and from what I've learned from "What Not To Wear", large prints make you appear larger, while small prints have a slimming effect. So on a patchwork skirt look for smaller patches, with smaller print. I hope this helps.
i'm about 5'2", sort of big chested, big hips with a slightly smaller waist. i think i'm what they call pear shaped? not sure. i do prefer smaller prints. thanks heaps!
my measurements, roughly, are: 53" bust, 40" just under bust, 48" waist, 55" hips. My measuring ribbon/tape is buried somewhere in one of my craft boxes. Used a length of wired ribbon and a tape measure, lol! I'm 5'2". I'm like soup, thick and chunky, lol! Wicked
I think I'm bigger than you are and feel I can wear anything if it is.. 1. dark colors (black, navy, brown) 2. top and bottoms match I have a black floor length broomstick skirt that I love and if I wear it with a black top, I get compliments. I also wore it with a white long sleeved blouse and black printed vest that also looked very good. I'm really into ethnic clothing right now. For a wedding I'm attending next month, I'm wearing white palazzo pants, a while tank and a white and gold abaya. It looks great.
