How did you propose to your spouse or how did your spouse propose to you? I'll go first: We were mowing the church yard for dating money (it took two days). The first day was July 4 and she just knew I was going to propose to her but did not that day. The next day (July 5) I asked her to go shooting with me out on her father's farm after mowing. This was in 1984. We collected the guns and drove the old pickup out there. I set her down under a tree (she actually sat in an ant bed). I had made a list of things to tell her; of which sounded like I was breaking up with her (she was crying and squirming [from ants] by the time I got to the end of my list; at which time I pulled the ring out of my Tony Lama boots and asked her to marry me. I had on a stetson hat and a gunslinger belt. Of course she accepted but we promised her dad it would be many years before we actually got married. We set the date within a month for December of that same year. When we told her dad, he spat his tobacco and cursed but eventually gave us his blessing. We married and this December we will have been married 23 years. Peace be with you!!!
aww, how sweet.. except for the ants.. My hubby never asked.. we had been living together a couple of yrs and one blustery fall afternoon, he says get in the truck, I got in the truck, we drove to town.. quietly as Lynn is a man of few words, we got to the town square and Lynn parked the truck in the courthouse parking lot, we got out of the truck and went up the courthouse steps and inside..I thought we were getting tags or something for the truck, untill he asked the clerk for a marriage licence..wow, was I shocked. We went to the JPs office in jeans and t-shirts and took our vows. We just celebrated our 23 sept 23 sh

Nice stories My husband took me to a lovely restaurant and asked me before our meal came, then stopped everyone who happened to walk by to tell them that I'd said "yes" (what I'd actually said was ... "of course I'll marry you!!!!!"). We had been married 30 years when he died in 2005.
My wife and I decided to move in together in 1980. Can't recall whose idea it was, just a mutual idea we had. Three years later in Miami we were planning to start a group home and legal marriage would be a requirement for a live-in. So we decided again mutually to get married. The marriage was just a legality as I came from a community where couples just moved in together and it was the same as a marriage, like with me and Jim. Brenda and I never counted our marriage date as our anniversary, it was May Day, set arbitrarily in the month that we knew we would be together.
